Interesting list. I've flown on 10 of the air frames listed. I'm quite sure I won't have the opportunity to fly on a couple of the other ones, but looking forward to flying on the other birds that fly commercial passengers. Cheers! T7
Re: 20 planes every aviation fan should experience!
I think I've been on all the listed Western frames bar the A350 and C-series...none of the listed Russia/CIS frames though. The only Russian frame I've ever been on was a Uzbekistan Airways Il-62. I'm surprised that some of the choices. I'd have a few more interesting airliners in there:
757 - steep take off and just pure power
MD-80/88 or Fokker 70/100 - screaming rear jets.
Britten Norman Trislander - my favourite prop bird by far!
I'm guessing that this list only includes frames still flying as otherwise there would be some pretty massive ommisions, none more so than:
Concorde - ok, so experiencing this now would be hard, but if this was still flying, I'd have had a shot by now...no brainer.
Of all the ones I've not tried in this list, top choices would be the An-225 and the screaming Il-76!

Re: 20 planes every aviation fan should experience!
I have to agree with Andy with the 757 having a lot of pure engine power on take off & the MD-80 having 'screaming' jet engines, it's like flying in a flying missile because all the power is coming from the rear...
I have yet to fly on the A320 & A380 airliners (I don't care for the A350) but I have flown on all Boeing jets with the exception of the 707 (I have flown on the DC-8 instead) & 787... I also have yet to fly on the 747-8I, perhaps with Lufthansa the next time I travel to Germany...
And the only way I will be able to experience flying on the An-225 is if I were to dress myself as a very sexy stewardess with a big rack because otherwise they would not let me even near that aircraft...

I guess it's because they are the world's top two narrow body jetliners of today.

Re: 20 planes every aviation fan should experience!
And who compiled this list??
This story and the list makes no sense at all....
Could be one of the dumbest stories of the year...
Actually this one is the award winner
Passengers fear for their lives on a normal go around and then the reporter interviews a bunch of drunk women passengers at a bar to get her take on what happened..I like the comment we circled for 3 hours on a 2.5 hour flight!

All in good time for you to fly on the A320 and A380. I think everyone if given the chance/travel destination should jump on the A380; it really is a cruise ship in the skies!
Always a pleasure to fly on the Queen of the Skies! Had my opportunity on the Air China 747-8, and it was great that my 2 kids had the experience to fly on the jumbo that changed global travel for the masses. Hope you get on board that LH 747-8 in the future.
You busted my gut with the sexy stewardess comment!

Ah. The list was strange in the fact that they listed a few air frames that the general public would never, ever get the chance to fly on = AN225. But, not a dumb story at all, strange = Yes, dumb = No. Due, to current planes on the list that we have the chance to board and experience. Cheers! T7

Re: 20 planes every aviation fan should experience!
[QUOTE=T7_4ever;1951137]I agree with swapping the 2 air planes. Flew on many AA MD-80s and they are bloody loud! But, quite an aviation experience.
I flew on at least one of them in 07. The TSA 'selected' my family (because the family of 4 with a 2 year old child is obviously very suspicious) for additional screening and we nearly missed our flight. Somehow we ended up in the last row and I remember watching the JT8D doing its job. At the time I was disappointed but today it would have been great.
A few years later I was able to catch many mAAd dogs before they left SJC. A departure was always a beautiful sound and even had the correct visual effects - a large cloud of smoke. Even over the house at 14,000 feet, you could tell that was an MD!
I love the view of them head on - it looks a bit like the concordski.

Sweeet! Upper deck on a B747 = the only way to fly! Cheers! T7
Definitely, only flown on the upper deck once, but wow...it was in an economy upper deck of a BA 747-100 from Cairo back in early 2001, amazing, and I got to have a chat with the pilots and engineer on the flight deck prior to departure and again in the air...such an amazing experience and I was amazed at all the mechanical controls in a classics cockpit!
