Regrettably, this is not going to end well.

Bomb? There will be repercussions if it was, you might expect something like that when flying out of Egypt, but from Paris? Happened nearing Egyptian airspace too, some group trying to embarrass/target the Egyptian Government?

Very sad news indeed - my condolences to the friends and families of the victims..

I also hope that EgyptAir will survive this tragic loss of SU-GCC as the airlines is in trouble in general and the region is very unstable plus tourism has been declining dramatically. As MS is 100% owned by the state of Egypt they may survive this. MS is a great airline and I love their current livery! I hope that I can use their product again and that the future will provide Egypt peaceful times, so i can visit more of this outstanding coutry..

I'd wager that if it was a bomb it may have been placed on board in Egypt and timed for the return leg in an attempt to undermine confidence in French airport security. Just my 2 cents worth...

+1, Could have happened at any number of places before this flight if it had a timer on it.

As soon as I heard that it "disappeared" at 37000 feet, "red lights" started flashing in my head ... I'm sure most of us suspect the worst ... terrorism ...

Looking at the released ACARS messages suggesting smoke in various areas, the investigators must be looking at the possibility of an onboard fire breaking out by now ? Possibly breaking out in the cockpit or close to the FO's seat, causing rapid and catastrophic failure of the aircraft systems and over coming the cockpit crew quickly.

The 90 degree turn suggests an emergency evac of air lane and the downward spiralling suggests an attempt to get to breathable altitude, perhaps to allow the cockpit windows to be opened to clear the smoke ? No distress communication may also suggest the severity of the fire and sheer lack of available time to communicate an emergency to ATC. It's all just speculation though, but an alternative to the much bandied about 'terror' theories...

The fire theory seems to be gaining some traction, based off the released data it reminds me of Swissair 111 in some ways.

Audio from the flight deck voice recorder of EgyptAir MS804 indicates an attempt to put out a fire on board the jet before it crashed into the Mediterranean, sources on the investigation committee said on Tuesday.
