Unhappy Buffalo Airways Air Operator Certificate Revoked by Transport Canada

Some sad news for fans of Buffalo Airways and vintage aviation:

Buffalo Airways Suspended

Here's hoping they can get these issues resolved quickly and get back in the air.

One has to wonder if the age of the radial engine in commercial use has ended, or should be ended.

My guess is that the airline tried to cut corners to make up for revenue shortfalls. Kind of classic for an airline that isn['t maknig money and is going 'belly up'.

Unfortunately, the suspension or revocation of an operating certificate is usually the last step in an airline being disbanded.

I don't think the company was overly starved for money. They have the primary firefighting contract for the north as well as being the main cargo supplier to all the northern communities and they are running less expensive radial engine aircraft. I know one of the issues is that they were using over-sized tanks on their fuel hauls. They've been using the same tanks for 35 years, but never adjusted to modern regulations. I'm sure there are a few infractions such as this, but better not to speculate. I hope they'll get back on track.
