Unfortunately, this might be the opening that COMAC might exploit with their MRJ21 to break into this market segment outside of communist China.

If only Boeing kept the 717 and 757 line going....

Here's the former MD factory at LGB that built the MD-95. It's now a Mercedes Benz Vehicle Processing Center.

I have always loved them, it was my first flight when I was younger. It's the reason I love airplanes today.

Loved that airplane! For about a year back in 2000 I was responsible for the conformity inspections of all new 717 deliveries that arrived at MCO from Long beach.

The first time I saw a 717 was after Airtrans went to Delta. Now I see them all the time over here.

I once flew on an AirTran 717 and loved it. It was just the right size--bigger than an RJ, but smaller than a 737 or MD-80.

Glad to see the old "Fly DC Jets" sign is still around. (Historic landmark?) Hope MB is maintaining it well.

As loved as the 717 & 757s are with aircraft enthusiasts, it wasn't economical to keep the lines open.

Default Fly DC Jets, Forever!

In 2005 There were designs on the table for the addition of auxillary fuel tanks and winglets to extend her range. They (BCA) still killed the program even with firm interest for 50+ aircraft from multiple carriers. I just love to route through ATL on DAL to watch all of those DC-9-80/90's and 717's still hard at work. I've even flown from SEA to ATL to hop on a 717 or MD-88 back to ICT

I spoke with DAL capt on a layover (while he allowed me to photograph his office) and DAL loves the old Mad Dogs. He mentioned, like in the article, while fuel prices are low and cheap leases they are pure money makers after about the first 10-12 days of the month and they have a high dispatch reliablitiy rate, as well.

Unfortunately though, all good things must end, bitter sweet indeed!

Always have been a tail-mounted engine jets. B717 is an adorable one
and always wish KE would've bought some for domestic routes as KE used
MD-80s, B727s & F100s...
