Default 10 Across in a B 777

United Airlines is considering creating a high-density Boeing 777 subfleet with 10 seats across--rather than nine--in regular economy class and a smaller than usual business class cabin.

The new configuration would allow United to install 364 seats on each aircraft, nearly 100 more than the airline has on many of its three-class 777s.

American Airlines has already done this - where does passenger comfort come in? I know, I know, we get what we pay for (safety and a relatively cheap ticket), but there has been no price drop in parallel with the tremendous windfalls the airlines are reaping from cheaper fuel.

The 'Premium Economy' upgrade becomes more attractive, Doug

It wouldn't surprise me that if United could figure out a way to get an ERJ to cross the pond then it would ground their 777s tomorrow.

Scare Canada has also done it. SeatGuru Seat Map Air Canada Boeing 777-300ER (77W) Three Class

and yes, it does seat 458.... Who needs a 747-8I? Air Canada puts 458 seats in 777-300ER | Leeham News and Comment

10-abreast seating on a B777 for a 12 hour flight is an excruciating experience. It happened to me once (HKG-CDG), and will make sure it won't happen again.

This is why I am a fan of the A380 and 747 and their roomy interiors. I am sure that, should airlines listen to their customers, there would be several more of both types in service.

At this point why not just put some shi--y 30 abreast benches with access from only one side and call it an F-g day. United, you're suckage if you do this too. Refuse to fly AA 777's if I'm not in biz.

Flying coach/economy should be called called Crap Cabin these days. #thepartyisover

At this point, it's easier to list who is at 9 abreast.

Perhaps the C'd can refuel mid ocean wIth KC-135's on patrol???? That way 7 or 8 abreast will work with a single aisle bench seat set up?

Premium econ is what coach class used to be . So funny to see the new age fliers get duped by what they think is something new .Once again thanks boomers for lowering the bar on what used to be a great way to travel.

Who's a boomer? I traveled a United Airlines DC-6B San Francisco to Washington D.C. in 1954, and there was so much space in coach that I couldn't see the seat in front of me, and meal service was about what first class is today. Duped boomer new age fliers it ain't - it's the majors sucking up to the stock holders and screw the pax - it's just that simple, Doug

EK started this 10 abreast seating on the 777's which is one of the reasons it cannot be designated a 5 star airline.

I hear ya! My family and I endured 6+ hours on that Emirates T7 with 10 across = painful to say the least!

Yeah I know and it's sad that a once great way to travel has evolved into what it is today.
