I agree with you on the A350-800. However with Alitalia, why would they let them go under? Who would take over all the Italy flights?

They still aren't doing very well on loads.

AZ Alitalia has new investors and they are probably looking at the bottom line. If AZ took delivery of the A350s they would need to purchase all the "extras" too. Extra engines, parts etc. They already fly B772 and A332s so why not go with them?

Alitalia is in an awful financial shape.

Losses are mounting because it can't compete on the market and has too many employees which are heavily unionized. They are left wih no money to buy new planes, rather are forced to reduce flights and keep silently storing a growing number of birds. Even the retro-A321 EI-IXI has not been flying for months.

It was a great airline, but now it is like beating a dead horse.
