Default Passenger wakes up alone and locked inside plane!

Wow! Looks like nobody did the cabin walkthru to ensure it was empty? Glad he had a working cellphone on him!

No doubt the passenger will sue for millions because of the distress of him falling asleep.

In all honesty, provided the airline paid for my continuing flight and gave me a hotel room, I'd just shrug it off and laugh about it haha.

Really, the airplane door was locked? I didn't know they had locks on them.

They don't, most airlines out a security seal (sticker) on aircraft doors when they park them up and leave them un-crewed, however this isn't enough to stop you opening the door, it just shows if the aircraft has been opened whilst it's been sitting on the Tarmac, wether said pax knew how to open the door or not is a different matter, aircraft doors aren't just like opening your car door.

Whether or not the said passenger could read or not is also another story. Passenger doors all have FAA required placards that show you what way to pull or push the door handle to open it in case of an Emergencey. Also it is a lot like opening a car door. Pull handle open door.

Stupid *****. How he could sleep through a landing is a wonder to me. Not to have sense enough to figure out how to get out of an airplane is another wonder. Maybe he should have tried starting the engines, take a drive around the tarmac.

from picture provided, the aircraft was an ERJ-145..yes the doors of this aircraft is on the complicated side... this type of an aircraft doesnt have the foldable stairs like the crjs' (doors open downwards with built in stairs and handle bars) so for him, even if he successfully opened the door he still has to jump off the plane and that would be a major lawsuit waiting to happen....as for sealing goes...the sealer has to do a thorough check list ie toilet bins, overhead compartments, underseat etc... etc... before he seals the door shut....so how could they miss this person sleeping...something does not add up here..

Somebody's in trouble!

I work with ERJs all the time. Yes they don't have the folding stairs, but geez it's not rocket science to get the door open from the inside.

Now that would've been an interesting story to report! Passenger wakes up from a snooze fest, and decides to go for a little joy ride at the airport.

I've on occasion slept through my subway stop when I used to work in downtown Toronto, but sleeping inside a plane cabin after the airline staff have departed = has not happened to me yet! I think he was more than taken care of by United, and all is well. He can use this story at his next beer drinking session with the boys! Cheers! T7
