Default Unbelievable KTVU newscast about the Asiana pilots

Major prank done on KTVU today. They broadcast these (obviously made up) names of the pilots. They claimed that the NTSB provided them, but then retracted the newscast. Of course it was too late as it was recorded by numerous people. I have provided the 'translation' for you.

Sum Ting Wong (something wrong)

Wi Tu Lo (we too low)

Ho Lee Fewq (Holy F***!)

Bang Ding Ow (obvious one)

Seriously? This was broadcast? My guess KTVU will add an extra layer of security to ensure that material is correct.

How did she ever keep a STRAIGHT face reading those names? That's TOO funny!

My guess is she was not thinking about what she was reading, simply reading it. My Father worked in the television business for over 40 years. I should ask him how many people missed this in the chain, before it was actually read. If the subject matter wasn't so serious,I would find it amusing.

The part that got me thinking it was proofread was when she pronounced "Ho Lee Phuk" as "Ho•Lee•Fuke" with a long "u" as opposed to a short "u" vowel ... otherwise it was really a bizarre blooper.

The information for the names was provided by the Asiana Director of Flight Operations Wi *** Up.

I am wondering what all of them are saying now that it has been reported that a third girl has died as a result of the crash? She was in the intensive care.

An intern at the NTSB sent these names to the TV station.

I just read an update about this. Apparently the station received these names from an undisclosed source, then asked the NTSB to confirm them. The intern did just that, unfortunately.

That is pretty amazing. For as liberal as the bay area is, I am surprised that a member from the Ministry of Propaganda was not present to review all of the material before it was actually broadcast on the air.

They were probably too busy arresting people for eating french fries and drinking Coca-Cola while walking on the sidewalk.

In a world gone mad with being overly Politically Correct with a lot of people with a total loss of a sense of humor, there will be an over reaction about this.

I'm sorry about the loss of life. For those involved this tragedy will never be forgotten and they will carry it with them all of their lives, but the rest of us can't all go sit in a heap and cry about all the bad and nasty things which happen daily in the world. Humor is also a way of coping with the sadness in life.

Why do most people smile or laugh when you see someone trip and fall by stumbling over an uneven pavement or falling undignified off a bicycle?
1) It happened to all of us and consequently we all know how those people think (who saw me?),
2) we are glad that it didn't happen to us and that it is not us lying there or getting up as if nothing had happened.

Give the people a break.

Yeah, I just read about this. The other strange thing is the real names of the pilots and great detail about their experienced was well publicized earlier in the week by the media.

Something tells me we are not getting the whole story here. Also the TV station is trying to pass the blame onto the NTSB.

EXACTLY my thoughts as well. The names of the two pilots both had "Lee" in them ... forgot their exact names but that part I know is true.

I just don't see HOW the station's editors could let that "fly" on LIVE TV. It's so blatantly obvious those names were conjured up in the poorest of taste. All you need to do is read the FIRST name and realize it was a tasteless prank.

To get it to the level where it was actually read on the air is beyond me. I'm sure someone's gonna get fired for this - the station's credibility has been tarnished by this guffaw and someone needs to take responsibility - instead of always POINTING blame elsewhere.

I tend to agree that there is more to this than meets the eye. Someone on another site stated that when KTVU called the NTSB to verify they didn't read the names to NTSB on the phone, but just asked if the names that were already public info correct. Obviously I can't verify this, but it would be easy to see how this scenario could happen. Not trying to get somebody off the hook but it presents a different perspective if this scenario is true.

Latest on this "incident" is that Asiana Airlines is going to sue KTVU for "damages" to their reputation relating to the broadcast of said pilot names. Seems to me that they should be more concerned about their pilots "crashing" one of their planes, resulting in the accidental deaths of 3 innocent passengers than what a TV station inadvertently broadcast - not that I'm condoning such actions - just keeping an eye on the big picture here.

Oh dear, I hope the families of the two Chinese girls killed don't see this. It's amazing what's considered as humour when no nice every day white folks are involved.
