DeltafanDC-9,

FYI, American took delivery of N928NN, a new 737-823 on Thursday 06/06/13 from Renton CDC with N929NN right behind her due to ticket CofA and deliver early next week sometime. Additionally, there are two T7-300's up at Evt CDC scheduled for delivery in June/July time frame. Registries TBD, will advise.

The list is now once again updated. American continues to make great progress in their repainting (19 more since last update). In the second half of this year the first of the Airbus aircraft will be arriving in addition to the current stream of 737-800s.
I would like to again thank Airliners.net for creating an up-to-date thread keeping track of these new arrivals. Their information has kept this list much more accurate than searching through pages of images and reports.

Found an interesting article discussing the repainting plan, companies and facilities used, and secrecy of original planning.
Here is an excerpt describing the schedule for repainting:

"Right now American plans to repaint more than 300 aircraft, perhaps as many as 357, “the ones we will keep,” notes Barbara Kiss, who heads the repainting project for the airline. These will first include Boeing 777s , 737s , 767s then 757s and, lastly, MD-80s. By the end of May, 31 of these aircraft had been repainted, along with four new 777s that Boeing was not yet ready to make over. The hope is to finish repainting mainline aircraft in the second half of 2016. Boeing and Airbus will paint future new aircraft before delivery.

American Eagle aircraft also are receiving the new livery. American expects about half of existing regional jets (RJ) to be sporting the new look by the end of 2014. Approximately four RJs are being repainted each month. After a summer break for the busy travel season, repainting RJs will resume with about eight per month."

Thank you for sharing this article. It's very interesting. I am wondering why she didn't say anything about the US Airways Airbus aircraft?

Thank you for the appreciation. I was curious about that too. Maybe they cannot say until the merger is legally official? Don't they still have to have it approved some time this month, and then the real combination begins? Northwest operated with aircraft labeled as a subsidiary of Delta for a while after that merger.

Great work DeltaFanDC-9, but you should consider, that your lists suggest that the current fleet stays as it is and all get repainted, which is not true.. There are major changes this year:

AA's current fleet:

A319: 3 and 62 on order replacing oldest MD-80s (which will not get reppainted)
A321: transcon: 65 on order to be deliverd starting end of 2013: replacing all Boeing 767-200ER, all 757-200 domestic (no repaints)
B738: 90 on order replacing oldest MD-80s
B763: half of the fleet will be retired starting in 2014, replacement: B77W and B788 (first delivery: 2014..)

Phase-out: B762, B752, MD-80

Long term:
130 Airbus A320NEOs
100 Boeing 738 MAX (first in 2017 replacing the oldest B738)
Left B763 will be phased out and replaced by B788 and B789

Phase-out: B763

Fleet that will be combined with US starting in 2014 and will become the largest operator of the Airbus A320 series in the world:
A319: 96 + 62 orders (AA: 3 + 62 orders & US: 93 + 0 orders)
A321: 88 + 87 orders (AA: 0 + 65 orders & US: 88 + 22 orders)
A320: 72 + 130 orders (AA: 0 + 130 orders & US: 72 + 0 orders)
A332: 15 (US: 10 + 5 orders)
A333: 9 (US: 9 + 0 orders)
A350: (US: 22 orders)
B738: 215 + 90 orders (AA: 215 orders: 90)
B73M: (AA: 0 + 100 orders)
B763: 30 (AA: 30 + 0 orders)
B772: 47 (AA: 47 + 0 orders)
B77W: 9 + 11 orders (AA: 9 + 11 orders)
B787: (AA: 32 orders)

That will form the new AA and these wircraft will fly in the n/c.. You can find that data on AA.com within the press area.. It has also been announced from Scott Kirby that US will leave Star Alliance on 31.12.2013.. First day of the new AA: 1.1.2014..

I highly doubt US Air pilots will let those E190s go to USX. US management tried a few years ago and the pilots almost rioted.

They will have no choice. The two airlines are merging and it's common around the world to upgrade the regional fleets from 70 seater and up to be more profitable again. Look at LH for an example: LH Regional will cease to exist, Germanwings will take over with A319s and LH Cityline and Air Dolomiti are left with CR9 and E190/E195. The pilots really rioted here, but there is no alternative - the markets have changed and the airlines need to become profitable again, AA more than any other airline that's why they react.. With the merger they have all options, a new start to do things like that, like LH did it with killing their Regional brands. Another Example: IB Express.. Fleet commonality is more important than some pilots, that's why AA has Republic painting E-Jets in the AAEagle livery and A319s on order to go with the US fleet.. I think they made a good plan to restructure the fleet and to me their plan makes sense.. Just look at the mergers of DL/NW or UA/CO - that were basically the same stories to kill the small regional planes and to use the synnergies.. Now AA/US plans to do what the others did already..
