To me that is eurowhite. I am neither here nor there on the new AA scheme so far but I think I am going to enjoy seeing it more in the flesh than on the net.
But yes you are right. It is good they didn't go all white and should be praised for that and all these interchangable schemes are so boring.
The eurowhite schemes I DO like? Hawaiian, 'Ohana by Hawaiian, the new Fiji Air scheme all have a bold enough identity. And I don't mind getting flamed for this, but JAL, with Tsurumuru back on the tail, and that so bright white with black lettering. I do think JAL see that all white as a blank canvas for the many special liveries you get in Japan. If they keep the fleet clean it will work, and culturally I think bringing the crane back has stimulated the company to regain what they used to have. We certainly hear less and less moaning about JAL of late.
Rant over, back on topic!!
A boring thoughtless livery that is 99% white is a a boring livery no matter what tiny details you can pick out. If you're sitting on the beach someplace like Montego Bay and look up in the sky you see two types of planes boring white and American. AA did the right thing not making another of these bland white disasters that fill the skies.

To those who actually like this unspeakably disastrous abortion of a livery... I question your taste, intelligence, and worth as a human being.

So AA seems to want to paint "one of each aircraft type" first. We have seen a 1:1 B767,
ERJ and B777-300ER so far. What's left?

I don't think they'll put any thought into repainting the MD-8Xs since their death at the company is mere months away.

American plans to operate the MD-80 through 2017, so I wouldn't exactly call that "mere months."

Whether the MD-80s see the new colors or not depends on how long it will take AA to repaint the fleet. Top priority will have to be given to repainting the US Airways fleet. Then it depends on how quick they are with AA's existing fleet. When united took over CO there were still tons of planes in the Battleship livery. Delta seemed to repaint their whole fleet, and NWA's, so quick. I hope we see the MD-80s in the new colors. You are right though, 2017 is not mere months away.

Just FYI for you fans of this livery...

Read on A.Net yesterday that current repaint plans are only for the 737-800, 767-300, and 777-200 right now. No plans (as of yet) to repaint the 757-200, 767-200, or MD-80. I can understand the 767-200 and MD-80, but I'm surprised they don't at least have any 757-200s planned for repaint as of yet. I'm sure they will get scheduled before too long though. No way does that type not get the new colors.

I love the new logo. But I think they totally screwed up the livery. At first I only didnt like the tail, but the more I see it, the more the gray paint looks terrible as well. Its like they tried to keep the silver, but failed miserably. I really hope they do something else. They already have over a thousand planes to paint post-merger, so why not fix their mistakes.

I wasn't impressed with the developement of Hitler's reaction; too much vulgar swearing and the continuity was lost on those AA pictures.

The officer's briefing on JAL/ANA and American's livery change was good but to make the war piece work, Hitler should have known about the change by adding to American's defense: "You were discussing, uh, air supremacy with this logo?" "The old scheme told me we're gonna keep boarding passengers. Is that CLEAR? We're gonna fly all night, we're gonna fly all day. If American is not VICTORIOUS, let no plane return!"

While my wording is based on quotes from Patton, warlike diologue is always the best treatment for Hitler's reaction.

Sucks balls.

It's still a EuroWhite (EuroSilver) livery. No imagination, no creativity.

I think that's exactly what happened. Big-time FAIL.

Looks like the livery may be as short-lived as some have hoped...

BECAUSE.......they will be collectors items if AA does change their livery. Did you happen to read about that in Big Al's thread above?

Oh, really? That'll just be like the previous liveries then when they didn't even HAVE any paint except for the lining, etc!

I was never a great fan of the silver livery (yes I know, burn the heathen at the stake and all that!) but with the previous livery being about for so long and being so well known, quite frankly, it seems to me that to some people, NOTHING would ever be good enough to replace it - it could have been the best livery in the history of the universe, and yet, people would still complain.

Me? Well, its a bit dull, but I still like it, at least its still remotely dignified and not just Eurowhi.... Generowhite, sorry. Just use silvery paint instead of the grey though. By the way, it was pointed out earlier that the tail is supposed to represent the merger.

The new livery is not distinctive. When viewing it head on there is no way you can tell it is American. With the read white and blue stripes it was identifiable, now it is not.

Also, if they are keeping the new logo, make it look more like an eagle than a paper tab. When they came out with the double 'AA' logo in the 60's the whole airline campaigned to save the eagle, and they did. So maybe it can happen now.

Surely the blue stripes on the front of the tail would give it away?
