Default Singapore Airlines to order 5 more A380s and 20 more A350s, Scoot to order 20 B787s.

SINGAPORE: Singapore Airlines (SIA) is ordering five more Airbus A380 superjumbos and 20 A350s in a deal worth US$7.5 billion to grow its capacity and for fleet renewal, the airline said on Wednesday.

Deliveries are due to begin in 2017, the airline said in a statement.

The airline currently operates 19 A380 superjumbos and already had firm orders in place for 20 A350s, for delivery from 2015.

SIA said the A350s are intended for use on medium and long-haul routes.

As part of the deal, SIA said Airbus will acquire its five A340-500s, which will be removed from service in the fourth quarter of 2013.

The airline said it will cease non-stop flights between Singapore and Los Angeles and between Singapore and Newark in view of a lack of replacement aircraft in its fleet with "sufficient range and operating economics".

SIA CEO Goh Choon Phong said: "Although (it is) disappointing that we will be halting these services, we remain very committed to the US market.

"Over the past two years, we have increased capacity to both Los Angeles and New York by deploying A380 superjumbos on flights via Tokyo and Frankfurt. We will also continue to explore additional options to enhance our US services,"

SIA also added that its Scoot unit will acquire 20 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft to support its growth plans, in a deal worth more than US$4.0 billion at list prices.

Deliveries will start in 2014, said Scoot, which started operations in June.

The fuel-efficient new aircraft will replace Scoot's fleet of Boeing 777-200s, it added.

Scoot currently operates no-frills flights from Singapore to Sydney, Gold Coast, Bangkok, Taipei and Tianjin in China.

Services to Tokyo will start on October 29, followed by flights to the Chinese cities of Shenyang and Qingdao in November, the statement said.

Therefore, Singapore Airlines now has 20 B789s on order,20 B789s on option,40 A359s on order and 20 A359s on option!
Scoot is also getting 20 B789s and another 20 B789s on option.

Thats a huge order from Singapore Airlines to Airbus and Boeing.

The news article also says that SIA is phrasing out their A345s. Its sad that the world's 2 longest routes have to be closed.

The B787 will look great in the Scoot livery.

SQ ordered B787-9s not B787-8s, and all of them are going over to Scoot, so it isnt additional 787 orders =x. I wish i would one day get to see a 787 in SQ colours, disappointing news indeed

They aren't all going to Scoot. Only 20.

SIA ordered 20 Boeing 787-9s some years back, and all 20 orders will go to Scoot. That order also included 20 options, but it remains to be seen if SIA will exercise those options either for SIA or Scoot.

The famous longest regular scheduled flight won't be available by Q4 2013?

It was a memorable experience for me and my wife to be onboard the SQ021/SQ022's A340-500, and will not happen again within the next trizillion years....

So long SQ's A340-500....

The 20 B787-9 that Singapore Airlines ordered will be acquired by Scoot. SQ ordered 20 B789 with another 20 options hence all is going over.

Unless SQ exercise their 20 options will we then be able to see B787 in SQ colours.
