Good news, I imagine that means the forthcoming Doha announcment will go to EDI then. Oh and Emirates use A340-300 and 500 aircraft, they don't have any 600.

Good to hear. DUB just started yesterday. Apparently either 340-300 or 777 will be replacing the 332 in OCT/NOV.

Some sort of announcement due next apparently according to local speculation, Although it could well be coming to Glasgow too, owing to better widebody handling/infrastructure.

I take it Doha means Qatar coming to scotland, This is good news for scotland, saves connection times through london but best of all saves airport tax because these arab countrys are tax free or very little airport tax.

By the time you fly to london you could already be on your way across the world from scotland, Qatar is good news for me as this could be a one stop choice for my future flights to Bali, and there prices have been attractive before, but not so attractive when adding flights into london.

Nope, but Qatar have 600's. Whether or not they'd fit onto stand at GLA or EDI is debateable. It's a few metres longer than the 77W, and the A345 is slightly shorter than the 77W.

They are using -300s. Im not sure GLA can handle the -600. We cannot here at BHX, i know PIK can.

The 77W just about overhangs the taxiway road on it's usual GLA stand Sandy, the A346 is a few metres longer, not much in it. I'm sure they could squeeze it in although I'm not sure that much capacity would be required anyhow. Most likely an A330 or 772 should another middle east operator be announced.

EDI has even greater infrastructure issues when it comes to widebodies, they'd need to build something if they wanted to airbridge to the terminal.

Yeah A343 until phased out, then I'm betting 773 or 77W

Yep, the established daytime service became a 77W after two years of A330 back in 2006. It's also going from 2-class to 3-class on June 1st.

I'd assume recent redeployments of aircraft elsewhere have freed up the A343 for regional routes like this ? It'll be interesting to see where amongst the regional routes the A350 ends up, but I wager we'll see one at GLA too.

Length wise a a340-600 would not fit onto 30, the 777-300er just fits, the road was has had a notch taken out of it so the 777 can fit on 30? So anything longer would be a no go, wing span on a a340-600 is 63.45 meters and the 777 is 60.9, i dont think it would fit. The wing tips on the EK 773 are just on the inter stand clear ways and the tail it just over the edge? deffo a no go! Lol!
