Default Pan Am 103 bombing - 23 years ago today.

I thought I'd mark this anniversary, having suddenly realised what today's date is. I still remember that night in Dec 1988 and hearing on local radio that they thought a fighter jet had perhaps gone down near Lockerbie, then the realisation that a 747 had gone down directly onto the town itself.

Ten years after the incident, I took a drive through the town on my way home from a job in northern England, they were switching on the christmas lights for the first time since the disaster. I remember being struck by the eerie sadness affecting the place as I drove in from the hills above the town, passing close to Tundergarth Farm and the field where the nose section and cockpit impacted.

Driving past Lockerbie nowadays, I still get a shiver just thinking about what happened to all those ordinary people going home for christmas. May they rest in peace.

I heard on Irish radio yesterday about a man who "predicted" or dreamt about the accident prior to it occurring, even told the police, later got a job with the police where he would inform them of any peculiar dreams he would have. Interesting story.

If it's the same guy I'm thinking of - there was a documentary about him a few years ago - dreamt, predicted and painted 9-11 before the fact... strange one.

I was only 7 months old when it happend =( Just a nipper! Mum and Dad Will never forget it! Dad was working down there not that long ago. He said it was a very surreal feeling. Woman I work with, her husband was in the police at the time when they stayed down there, He and hundreds of other officers went through lockerbie with a fine tooth comb looking for the smallest part of the 747 and sadly other things =(

I was 18 and at college, was stacking shelves in the local co-op supermarket when it came on Radio Clyde news. Knowing about planes I knew it was going to be bad news when they mentioned the words "Pan Am" and "Jumbo Jet".

Some of my 'future' colleagues were filming a tv church service in nearby Dumfries, they got sent across to try and get some pictures. I spoke to them about that and some of they things they witnessed were extreme. A terrible affair for all concerned. No matter the motives, the revenge theories, the politics or the terrorism. Ordinary civilians do not deserve to have their lifes ended in such a despicable manner, whatever the creed, colour, nationality or belief.

It was a shocking event and it happened in my little country. Once again, RIP to all who were taken that winter's night.

I was a young and still naive 30 years old when this tragedy occurred. I stayed glued to the TV, in disbelief of what I was seeing.

R.I.P. to all who perished in this tragedy.

I remember seeing pictures of the flattened cockpit lying on the ground like some strange fish. Those poor people had to watch themselves die for 45 seconds, but it must have felt like forever before it became forever. And the people below never knew what happened when the whole world fell on them. RIP to them and may those involved with the bombing rot in hell.
