Lightbulb What If Contest...

It must be the holiday spirit, but I feel like giving away a free model. So, here is the deal.

DAC.com is going to hold a “What If” contest. You come up with a never before seen kick arse new airline livery. Email it to me I will post all the entries and then the members here @ DAC will cast their vote for the best…

The rules…

Limit of 1 entry per member

The livery can appear on an air frame of your choice

Submit your entry in JPEG format

Submit left and right side views

Top side views are optional

The design must be “All New”, in other words never before seen here on DAC.

All entries MUST be received by January 1, 2004

The winner will receive a new regular release 1:400 scale model.

Any questions contact me please…

Default What Contest?

.....if we could only shoot AirDar, Craig H. Hansen, HerpaBryce, Jetabout, Sentinel Chicken and Boeing SST, then the contest would be just about fair.

Those monsters named above could throw a nice contest finale or better yet, a match of titans.

Great idea!!!!

Lightbulb Good Idea

But yes, I have to agree with nutsxplanes that as long as those that he mentioned are aloowed in the contest ( not that its a bad thing) the rest of us do not stand a chance.

I don't really care for a 1:400 scale model. I already tried to do something but it seems like most ideas have already been taken. Good luck to anyone else. I'm out too.

Thanks for the kudos, but to be honest, I'm too busy to consider it anyway... besides which, I don't do these to win stuff, just for the fun and enjoyment of the collectorate at large.

Doc? Jetabout? care to win a free model?

Thanks for the mention, Lufthansa!
Great image too, Craig. I like your new A320 image, as well. The background is very good, it looks like a lot of time went into it.

Steve.

Steve.
I reillustrated the A320 today. As for the background on A320 United was done for a shirt design I was going to do for United it was rejected. However I designed this back in 1993 in a sketch then scanned it but refined everything and looked at real photos looking to the west. Yes it was a timely endeavor.

Heheh, seems like participants are falling like flies on DDT. I guess Doc or Frenchjet will be the winner, since I am officially bowing out as well. Like the gentlemen above, I also do these just because I enjoy it.

So here's my proposal, either:
a. we can be the contest judges, that'll be fun
b. send us all a model , or
c. all of the above

Still a great idea so I'm looking forward to the entries.

O.T. Craig and Lufthansa:
Nice blended wings. I read an article somewhere about research done on the concept and their findings are so riddled with negatives they came to the conclusion that the ideas is either a long way off or will never happen. Passenger acceptability notwithstanding (the scarcity of windows) getting people out in case of emergencies would apparently be a nightmare. If you only fill passengers on the outer edges, then it is more workable, leaving the center area for cargo, but then how do you load it. A new system has to be invented.

Ron, does it just have to be an 'original' livery, or an original airline as well? ie. could I do a new livery for Air Canada? Or would I have to call it Canada Airways or something?

Good question Faheem,

It can be a "what-if" re-design of a current or former airline or fantasy livery of an all new "make believe" airline as well...

I sure hope I see a Piedmont in the line up...

How about posting a blank where people less skilled could try their best. the "What if" titans could be the jurors and maybe the the ones that really know this stuff could present their most current projects.
I'm a big fan of their work and I do collect almost everything that they post here.

Thanks for their fine work.

i cleaned up the livery i originally posted. this is my entry for the contest, a new pan am livery. clipper phoenix as in the bird, not the city. i.e. rising from the ashes. ive heard that Pan Am out of Portsmouth, NH (aka pan am 3) is getting a lot of Uniteds old 727s, so who knows what that will bring. my what if is on an A319 using Xplane

Hey it still looks good! It happens to many people. Since I do Design for a living I can catch these things. Surprising at how much your memory can catch then call it original. All of us have done this once and again. It is human.

Just uploaded this in the same forum. Here it is as my official entry. Note: that's an "Operated by Atlas Air" logo near the front hatches. Just playing with logo sizes...
