Thanks to Air Dar and Chicken I returned to the search engine and found the thread headed "Washington called, The Chicken Works answered", posted way back in August 2001! Hence the absence of pictures. It would be nice to see the picture again. I managed to get Chicken's F108 Rapier to appear on his other thread, but not this one.
I can add a bit on the exchange on USAF SSTs featured in this thread. In a number of magazines in about 1968-71 drawings were released of a plain USAF silver SST being refueled by a Lockheed tanker (C141 or C5). Rich Seeley has produced an Air Force One in the blue and white colours. Had the project succeeded the President might have got one in time for the Bicentennial in 1976. Like others I love the Braniff SST schemes and the two versions Air Dar and Chicken have shown. I have tried to find out, so far without success, what colours Braniff themselves used on their artwork for the SST. I did find out that the options were first taken out by Panagra before Braniff took them over. How about a Panagra SST? Ralph |
