Default British Airways 787-100(ER)

Once again, Thanks DAR. This one has got winglets, so it can go throughout Europe and into Asia.

Thumbs up I am going to be posting (actually Steve) an MD-80 in the red tail soon

I found another artist rendering and made a profile from it!

Great work on the red tail 787!

is this a 727 modified to accept two "high-bypass" motors?

Pretty much. AirDar is the original designer, I just like playing with it. I think AirDar orginally has 757 engines on it (I don't know that for sure) but I added 737-800 engines.

Exclamation

Yes Anthony, Russ is correct, I proposed this evolution of the 727 airframe with Rolls Royce RB211 engines, but the 787 concept is much more than a simple 727 with new twin engines on it...

The wings are all new in both planview (having a wider wingspan) and in section. (A new supercritical section gives it MUCH greater performance and economy) Also the wings now have positive dihedral and optional blended winglets. Because of the weight differential, the wings and fared wingroots are further forward on the fuselage.

The fuselage uses all new doors and emergency exits. Only the cockpit, basic empennage and section of the cabin remain the same. The "screwdriver" tailcone which replaces the #2 exhaust houses the APU (moved from the wing on the 727) a'la the 777.

The main vertical stabilizer structure is similar but has no #2 inlet and the horizontal stabilizers are all new... much like the NG 737 or 717 stabilizers... wider in span and narrower at the tips.

There are additional improvements as well, but visually this mostly covers them... Russ seems to have become attached to the concept over the months since I first concieved and posted the above image. Your confusion probably stems from the photos used to create the pictures... Despite his great efforts to capture it, Russ has only ever gotten halfway due to the extreme complexity of trying to marry all of these new components while using existing stock... that's why I drew it instead of compositing it myself!
