With all due respect, the "Voodoo" name is already taken in the F-101, and RF-101

Voodoo is the name I chose for this particular airframe... the AC-103U is nicknamed "Spooky", thus the title of the thread. Hope this clears things up.

Technically the AC-130H is referred to as "Spectre" and the AC-130U has the call sign "Spooky", but crews refer to the AC-130U (the latest variant) as the "U-BOAT".
AC-47s in Vietnam also used the radio call sign "Spooky", though crews then called 'em "Puff" or "Puff the Magic Dragon". The use of the name Spectre didn't come to be until the AC-130E variant, which came from it's development name, Pave Spectre. The subsequent variant, the AC-130H, was referred to as Pave Spectre II, but became just Spectre. And as for the AC-119s, they used the call sign "Shadow" in Vietnam. The later variants which swapped out the 7.62mm Miniguns with 20mm Vulcan cannons had the call sign "Stinger".

Per USAF specs, the AC-130H's call sign is "Spectre." The AC-130U's call sign is "Spooky," and traces its history to the first operational gunship, the AC-47.
Of all things I could have done, I'm surprisd this one caused some quasi-controversy! I chose the Voodoo monicker because the artwork reminded me of a witch doctor/sorcerer kind of thing. Steve Last edited by Steve; 02-27-2002 at 04:46 PM. |

the guns look fine.... its the ASD-5 black crow( the bubble near the nose on the left...) the U-boat does not have it ( neithe does the H model anymore)and the U-boat does not have the long pitot boom out the left side of the nose like the H model.... and it seems like you put a J model nose on the poor girl ![]() I do like your nose art ![]() good job and thanks for the intrest
