Default Resize pictures 2

I have a general question to DA.C moderators:

might it be possible to limit maximum size of posted photos?

You know what I mean - from time to time everyone of us would like to post large picture found elsewhere on the web, picture which is really huge. Of course there´s a possibility of posting such picture as a link, but its not the same as to post a photo directly. And sometimes someone actually posts such a large photo - you cannot avoid it - and then you end up with sliding whole page left to right and right to left to read every line.

But if it might be possible to set a max. size of posted photos by DA.C´s software, say, not to exceed standard width of the thread, all this would be cured once for all. Isn´t it good idea ?

Thumbs up Re: Resize pictures 2

I think that would be a great idea. I hate the side-to-side scrolling for all text below the image. I think 850 pixels (max) would be a good initial presentation size with a clickable enlargement option to full size -- similar to other sites.

Is that do-able here I wonder?

hey there,

pictures should not break the frame of the page. can you post a large photo as an example for me so we can see whats going on? usually they are suppressed into a smaller frame then can be opened in full by clicking on them.

lets test this, thanks.

hey all,

that image is HUGE! i also checked the back end and it would seem like the sky was not even the limit. or space. or the edge of the galaxy. or anything.

so we have applied the fixes and it should sort it out to proper thumbnail sizes. it is set to a good default of 800x600. we are doing an attachment rebuild to fix it all now.

let us know if its all fixed.

Ok Shane, now you see that the pictures can be really huge at the moment. Its good to hear about changes in the software, i believe it will bring positive results.

When you finish all those changes maybe might be good idea to post short information about this - that from now on the forum members can download even a large pictures without the fear that they will be "too much".

Anyway - you spoke about "attachment rebuild". Did you mean Attachments which are generally loaded from own PC? Because this picture was loaded by "Insert Image" function, ergo actually copy and paste from the web.

Anyway thanks for the care.

What the admin is proposing will have no effect on how you are posting the photos. Its clear they don't know what you are talking about....

- Do the admins actually read posts in this forum, please? (Seems that long time nothing happened)
- Can admins confirm that they understand that mentioned large photos problem refer to photos posted directly from the web, NOT to photos uploaded as attachments from PC?

There is an image resizer plugin that just needs to be installed on the site. I am putting in a ticket for this now.

That would be good although I think 1024 is a good size. I view the forum on different size monitors as well as tablets as I travel around a lot. 1024 seems the ideal size to work on all of them.

Sorry, I do think 800 is too small - considering today's modern computer monitors most if not all should be able to handle 1024. However if that is the decision of the forum admin then fair enough.

800 defo too small too! 1024 x 576 fits page perfectly! all my uploaded flickr pics are that size. try this. first pic 1024 x 576. second 800 x 450

600 x 300

mmm still says 2nd pic resized although its 800!!! 600 x 300 looks ok. no resize message! and can we PLEASE get rid of the stupid message

'This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image'.

TOTALLY RUINS the pictures especially when multiple pics are posted. a simple note in forum rules saying pictures will be automatically resized to................................ would be enough. happens on aviationdelightforum. and no stupid resize messages above picture!!!!!!!!

so 1024 x 576 MAX PLEASE!!

Looks like you may have posted the 1024 pic twice and left the 800 out hence both the first two have that stupid message... at least that's what my computer is telling me. It does confirm the third one as 640.

If you can make the clicking bar without the "stupid resize message" as robertjon5 so nicely expressed, would be also good. Its true that seeing this message 10x on the page, above every bigger picture, is somehow annoying. Especially with those yellow tringles - I believe there´s no real danger when resizing pictures .

If from some reasons (legal or whatever) it is really really not possible to leave the bar without any notice, please try to consider simple words such as "Click bar to resize" , "Click here to resize" "Resize", "Full size" or so - without Warning triangles, without underlining. However leaving the clicking bars just free would be cleanest solution, with just a simple announcement as new topic in Site Issues and Support Section, IMHO.

yes please revert it back to how it was like before...I hate how all the picture size it shrunk down to resolution 800, that is too small. At least make it 1024. Pressing the resize message for each picture is terrible.

The Yellow Bar up top and the black bar on the bottom are part of the same code, the black has to stay, so the yellow does too. I'll change the verbiage on it. 800 Is the default so those on smaller screens or tablets/phones don't get the blow up issue as well.

well it doesn't happen on other forums like aviationdelightforum. they automatically re-size to 800 x 500. and says so in forum rules. but it does not have those STUPID MESSAGES above and below pics!!! so if THEY can do it......................................

btw, notice pics on wings900 are still ok!

omg this is terrible, please please either remove it completely or change it to at least 1024. I've been posted hundreds of photos on this forum for model reviews, if it shrinks down like this I'm not going to post here anymore.

Actually it looks like the monitor resolution for 1024 is 1024 x 768. Might be worth setting the cap for this and it could work then.

I'll add my photo as well that is 1024 x 683. In theory it shouldn't be resized for the above resolution.

why 576 as the height resolution? That's a random number. Honestly no one is running on 1024 resolution. You should honestly set the cap to 1024x1024. otherwise I'm done with this forum, with all the existing problems with ads and now this?!

This was a stupid suggestion in the first place, there should be no cap at all. But if you need to put any cap, very min is 1024x1024.

I think photobucket is around the same as well. If the cap increase can't be made to work then I agree with SKF, remove it entirely. Thinking about it, it's only a few times that someone posted a huge photo and even then the scroll bars work round it ok. In the main, people do post pictures within a reasonable size.

Probably because it's only us few that have commented. I think it would be different if say - the "regular" posters from the 1/200 forum had joined in.

You have simply set the resizing limit waay too low.
If you think you are not able to set the picture size limit so that most of pictures are unaffected, and only pictures of size such as original picture in post #4, then better to switch off the Image Resizing plugin completely.

Angry Re: Resize pictures 2

Well, here is MY line in the sand -- since everyone else seems to have one -- I use a tablet for a lot of this where the screen is 1024 (yes, there are LOTS of us tablet users out there) and if I have to continue to scroll SIDE-TO-SIDE for 40/50 posts down because someone couldn't resize their images from 2,800 pixels to something around 1,000, I'm just going to forget about this place. Period.

Between this issue, and ads, and other so-called 'non-fixable' issues, this place is getting very frustrating to endure.

I should have done it a long time ago already: thank you for finally fixing the oversized pictures, vs-Admin. I think you have chosen a good solution in the end.
