Talking Lets talk 1:48 CDC Armour

I think the 2 top producers for the general market (Those of us who would love but cant afford Bader etc) are Armour and Corgi.

I an new to the site and have already met great people.

What do you all think? what is your wish list for Armour and Corgi?

For me;

Armour 1:48

E.E. Lightning
F100
Sabre
B26 Maurader
Skyraider
Skyhawk

Corgi 1:72
Halifax
Thunderjet F???
Mig 23 (different?)
Typhoon (ww2 not Eurofighter)
Harrier GR3 (in 1:48 Falklands)

lets find out what we all think

I'd buy all the models on your list!! I put down my CDC Armour wish list on another thread here last night, so I won't repeat it, but for Corgi 1/72 I'd love the Halifax, also a B17 and B24. A 1/72 DC3/C47 would also be nice if done to the same standard as the Lancaster. I'm a bit stupid when it comes to models so I'll probably buy whatever they decide to produce

It's ok Justin it is not stupid its that we are FLEXIBLE!
These Armour are nicer than a desktop could ever be, the reason ,as mentined before is the cockpit glass! A wood model cannot reproduce this period!
These Armour models and the few Corgi 1/72 I have (Mossies and Lancaster) are outstanding

Make the F-86 a Canadair MK6 in RCAF service and you score 11 out of 11.
I too am a "flexible" sucker for a nice model, if they build it I gotta have it!
I'm currently chomping on the bit waiting for the USAAF/RAF B25, gotta love that cammo. And I still need to pick a 190.
So Justin, how's the nocternal Hurricane look now that it's finally yours???

The nocturnal Hurricane is doing fine, a rather nice little model and quite unusual to see a nightfighter. Now it's waiting in the box for the next rotation of my display models before it does "front line" duty in my display unit I'm waiting for Jimmy Doolittles B25B, I can't wait for that one to arrive, but sadly given the size of the B25 I think it may be my only one, although I hope I may find space to add another one, a later version like a -J with all the machine guns if possible. Were the Canadian F86's armed with cannon Ozz? The RAF ones were armed with 30mm Aden's I think, I never understood why the USAF stuck with the 6 .5cal mg's in the Sabre.

Default "Cannon" on jet fighters

Just curious: What types of "cannons" are used on jet fighters and what kinds of projectiles do they use? How much faster than the speed of the fighter itself must these projectiles travel?

Hi Anthony, the popular sizes are 20mm, 23mm (on Russian fighters), 25mm, 27mm(the Mauser's on the Tornado and EF Typhoon) and 30mm, although there are others. Most modern designs are rotary cannon using multiple barrels both to increase firing rate and prevent barrel failure from such high firing rates, although Mauser use a rotating revolver style firing mechanism with a single barrel, and many designs still use the old blowback system. The ammo used depends on the mission, for ground attack they will increase the amount of armour piercing in the mix, usually the ammo in modern designs is in a quick change container. I honestly can't remember the muzzle velocity but it seemed similar to a modern small arm. Many designs use an external gun pack, for instance the Harrier has twin gun packs which although external ordinance are essential a full time feature. The excetpion is the FAA Sea Harrier F/A2 which now carries AIM120 missiles where the gun packs used to be for air intercept missions. Hope this helps,

JT,

Thanks for airing one of my favorite subjects, Armour. I like your list and have most of them already, but not in 1/48. I've noticed that the 1/48 scalers are going up in price and the 1/100s are going down. Anyway, I don't have much room for too many 1/48 planes as it is, but the B-25 would be a great addition. I'm also still deciding on a 1/48 FW-190. Just can't seem to part with the cash that could go to a Corgi.
