Default Lockheed L500 Galaxys in a most fascinating private collection.

Hi all lovers of large-scale Airliner Models.
I have just been re-visiting some of my old copies of AIRWAYS magazine and came across a most fascinating article in the May 2000 edition.
This article is a multi-page comprehensive review of the private model airliner collection of Mr Anthony Lawler.
Mr Lawlwer has gathered and beautifully-presented a truely world-class and remarkable collection of some 500 larger-scale airliner models from all eras. Included in the collection are many rare, vintage, and desirable "Airline Office/Travel Agent/Manufacturer" models.

Of particular interest to me is a series of Lockheed L500 Galaxy Civil Jet Freighter "concept" models carrying several different proposed customer airline colour schemes. The article shows some of these including an Air Canada and Lufthansa L500, it also mentions that fact that a Qantas L500 makes up part of the collection but alas no photo of the Qantas aircraft is included in the article.

I would dearly love to see a photo of the Qantas L500 Galaxy proposal model and gather any additional information about it including the model manufacturer, scale, etc. So if anyone out there has or knows of one of these Qantas L500 Galaxy proposal models, and would be willing to share some information about it, I would be most appreciative.

The l-500 models are1/144 scale made by verkuyl. The house livery is pretty common. I have several including one in united air lines livery. Take a look at the United models page on my website doraplane.com

***EDIT*** Just saw that you were looking for QANTAS! I'll go stand in the corner with my "DUNCE" hat on. (which never really comes off anyway)

Took this at the FlightPath Learning Center (at LAX, in the old Imperial Terminal)....this, obviously, is part of the Flying Tigers exhibit:

One more interesting bird:

Hope this is what you're looking for!

I was fortunate to see the collection first hand a few months back. The article does not do it justice. There are so many pre-war original factory model...it just blows my mind.

Mr. Lawler visits this site now and then, if he sees this thread I am sure he will post some photos or answer whatever question you might have.

Verkuyl also made an American Airlines L-500 and some others. I would love to get my hands on the Air Canada version.

You are lucky to have seen his collection out in the west, last time I saw his collection was years ago, back east. It is a truly great collection! I have made some replacement parts for some of his models, now and then through the years, let me tell you it is so different than plastic modeling, but I do have a funny story to tell, just about the time I started to not do modeling anymore(I had a new real job now), he sent me a original aluminum Douglas DC-7 to redo, well! after a while we both he and I forgot about it, we just couldn't remember, then about 6 years later when I moved, guess what I found, yup! now it is a Delta DC-7(not done by me).

Can you imagine having so many models that you can forget about a DFM DC-7 model? That is funny. Anthony is a great guy who is just as interesting as his collection. He is full of stories and Airbus history. I had a great time meeting him and a very good friend Fred Cox in San Fran. It was indeed my good fortune.
