Lightbulb 1/50 scale Boeing 2707-300 SST with interior...NEW

Hello All,

Well it looks like Mirage Models is on a new adventure. I'm sure you all remember our 1:400 models of the Boeing SST. Completely hand made with A LOT of labor. They weren't perfect, but we just had to have something out there for ourselves and collectors. It was sad to discontinue the project. Thanks again to all whom supported our efforts.

The big news: On the fabrication table, now, is another Boeing 2707-300 SST! This time in a gigantic 1/50 scale. The model will be constructed in 3 sections for easier shipping. The other big news is that this will be a partial cutaway model that will include the cockpit, first class, and coach section . These cutaway viewing windows will also be interchangeable with solid panels for those wanting to have a choice on how to display their model. Landing gear is included. Models can also be done "gear-up" but there is no display stand in the works as of yet.

Materials will be of laser cut MDF. This material will make up the keel, floor, stringers. Same for the wing box, wing frames, and engines. Fuselage panels will be metallic or flat vinyl/mdf depending on scheme . The quality of laser cut mdf is extremely crisp and accurate.

We will be offering a VERY LIMITED number of models for sale. As of now, the first three are spoken for. Pricing is still being worked out, but will be fair based on materials and labor. Custom schemes and interior colors upon request. Shipping to USA and Europe.

Stay tuned for production pics! The first model will be complete and arrive in NYC this September.

Wow Herb!... eagerly awaiting photos of this beauty. She'll be a hair over 6 feet long... correct?

PS... did you see the 2707 1:200 model that I recently acquired from Crownvic?

HI Greg! Yes....6.12 ft/ aprx. 73.44 inches. Mine will be Pan Am with custom Mayflower graphics in the fantasy first class lounge which I will design. We're really excited about this one. The large scale allows for smooth contours with the fine mdf parts. This model will have all the static discharge panels, panel details, and apu, and working LED nav lights in the fuselage and wings. It's really going to be something to see when finished. We decided to throw in a tug in whatever scheme the airplane is requested in.

Which SST are you talking about? I think he had a couple of different constructions.....

Best,
Herb

Hmm... personally I'm a Pan Am guy. What color scheme would we see on the Braniff (if that is what you go with)?

I shall follow this programme with interest. However, as one of the probably
large number of people with no room to store let alone display such a sizeable
model can I put in a plea to have a look again at something smaller. The 1:400
jobs were lovely. I realise that 1:200 seems to now be more popular.

Anyway, I shall follow with interest. Colour cheme, well BOAC of course.

Hi Ralph.
We know the 1/50 will have a very small sales reaction. We're really making them for ourselves and a few others. Next will be an accurate 1/200 with interior, etc as on the 1/50.

PS: Still have the BOAC 2707-300 art print for you when you're ready!

Hi Greg,

The wing structure is in work. I'm about halfway through the First Class Lounge/Seating/Coach seating configuration plans. Since this is a fantasy plane, it will get the first class lounge as that was the trend during that decade. Will post some interior art soon.

Thanks for asking~

Excellent... I hope it is pure 70's "shaggarific" chic...

Thanks for the kind words! The first one is going to take quite a while to put together. I'll get some interior artwork up here this coming weekend.

Herb,

Sorry, I haven't posted here on DAC in over two years! I've been busy with family and work. I missed this thread until now. Anyway, congratulations on your new 1/50 scale SST model(s) project. I would be interested in this also, except the extra large size. I might consider a similar model in 1/200 scale in either Pan Am or House colors instead, if Mirage Models can build these someday. Can you please give us another update on your 1/50 scale models, and any more details on future plans and other models? Was the first big model already completed last September? Are there any photos you can post? Are there any new details on pricing? Can you tell us more about construction detailing and materials on the model? Yes, I know - lots of questions...

Just a thought: I'm not sure if the Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos, California, would be interested in another model in their Boeing SST exhibit, but would you consider it? No, I'm not connected with the museum in any way. I would just like to be able see a 6 foot Mirage Model SST in person in a good place to see it.

By the way, I still have Mirage Models - model #01, edition #01 Boeing 2707-300 in house colors in its original delivered condition, safe in my display cabinet since 2008 (http://www.diecastaircraftforum.com/...just-recd.html).

Best of luck!

Hey Guys,

Update: This project is now shelved. Due to health issues w/myself and my partner. We're sorry to say that this model will not be made. It has been our dream to produce a large scale model w/interior; but unfortunately we have ceased efforts to do so.
I will still keep the project in my files for a possible future build.
JR and I appreciate your keen interest and past support. SFView, I saw the Hiller installation with Boeings original prototype. The cutaway model they have on display inside the mock up is not a Boeing 2707-300. It's a more recent concept SST.
Glad you and your very valuable model are keeping well~
I believe my stash is numbered to about 3 or 4 examples. I will be out on medical leave for the next five weeks, so time will permit me to locate my stash.

Best,
Herb

Herb,

Thanks, I very much appreciate the update. Please take care of you and your partner's health first. Then return to your interests, hobbies, model building and graphics projects as you are able, like or need. Please let us know how you are doing from time to time, if you can.

Best regards,
