Default What is this??

Found this on ebay earlier.

I have not seen one and just want a bit of information about it, such as how good the model is, etc etc.

I'm not thinking of buying it, but I'm merely curious, you know?

Anyway: Schuco Aviation Lufthansa Elektro Radiant 5600 - eBay (item 400010310316 end time Nov-28-08 11:04:55 PST)

Hi Roarer,

this is a re-edition of a classic tin-toy made by the German manufacturer "Schuco". The original "Radiant 5600" was made from 1958 to 1968 in the liveries of Lufthansa, Swissair, Air France, KLM, BOAC and Pan Am (hope I didn't forget any...). The remake is limited to 1.000 pieces per airline.

I have an original from around 1959/1960. Here are some pictures...

All the best!

Yes, the "Radiant 5600" was supposed to be a Vickers Viscount. Schuco started selling the original model in Germany around 1958 when Lufthansa took delivery of its first Viscounts.

No, I'm afraid the only electric action comes from the propellers starting in sequence.

All in all this is really a great tin toy! It's quite large: overall length is about 48 cm. If you're interested in the "Radiant", try to get an original - they're on German eBay all the time for quite reasonable prices, but mostly without the original box.

All the best!

.... and the moving wheels of the gear to make it running. If your's not doing so, there may be a malfunction in the gear system.

The one being sold that I found is from a guy in Portree. I don't know if he ships worldwide, but ask him, he seems a reasonable enough kind of guy and I buy things from him every so often.

The Schuco Radiant replica is available at the big E in many countries. In Germany they offer it between 150,- and 220,- Euro. In USA it's around 300,- $. Original retail price in Germany is 199,- Euro. I think, it should be possible to find a German seller, who sends it worldwide.

It should be remarked, that the replica is not a pure copy of the original Radiant. The body of the replica is painted and the livery is tampo-printed.The original was entirely lithographed. Also the inside of the replica has new electronic components. The electric gear itself is similar to the old plane.

Thats a neat little model! I love that classic airport artwork that was done from the 50s-70s.
