Recently bought this lovely little ATL-98 Carvair model. Scale 1:144
Hand painted including logos. Channel Air Bridge titling looks like rubdown lettering. The base model is clear see-through so you can see right through the passenger cabin. Could be carved and polished plexiglass as its too light for solid clear resin, and too heavy for clear vac-form. Winshield looks great as its flush with metalwork. Looks old and may have been made for Channel Air Bridge via the manufacturers. I rescued it from a museum that couldn't display it. Any ideas on its history? Hi Graham,
Indeed very interesting and rare model. Strange a museum has no space to display such a historic model. Enclosed a picture from a Carvair book where you see the same style of model. In this case with cars and stabilizers at the tail. |

Thanks. What terrific model in that pic. Never seen it before. Cars are Corgi so model must about 1:50 scale. What a magnificent piece! I wonder where it is now ? But look at that tail configuration.....must be an early concept model from around 1958 I'd guess.....Is the book still available ? I'd love to get one. |

The books are still available. In fact there are 2 books on the history of the air ferries to the Continent. One on the Bristol Freighter operations and the second on the ATL-98. The picture was in the first book. Very interesting reading and a lot of photos.

Is that the model that was being sold with others at the Heathrow Aircraft Enthusiasts Fair at Kempton Park? Looks like it. I picked this up and thought it was rather good but resisted as I already have a Minicraft DC-4 kit and F-RSIN Carvair conversion kit with these decals.

Correct. I have the DC-4 + resin nose in kit form ready to "do". So now its way down on the priority list as I've found this rather nice tailor-made job. Still haven't found out anything about it. Any ideas ?
