Default Antique Store Find

It's been a while since I last posted on DAC, but it's also been a while since I've had an interesting find. Was at an antique store in Singapore yesterday and stumbled across this Qantas B747 made by Skyland models. Not sure the exact build date, but the 1982 Commonwealth Games logo gives a hint!

Scale is 1/100 and I've included a comparison picture of a Pacmin Cebu A320 to give a size comparison. After sitting in the antique store for a while, the model is quite weathered and I'm just contemplating whether to have a professional restore the model.

I also picked up a 1956 Pan Am route map which is 3 ft x 5 ft in size. Have sent for it to be framed, and it'll be a nice addition to the living room wall. Will post a picture when it's ready, but out of curiosity does anyone know values for such route maps? They also had a 1960's UTA route map and a couple Air France route maps from the 1970's which looked interesting, but the Pan Am was the one that won me over.

Hey that is a nice model! Nice RR engines and mould. A very good find. At least the model now has a good home.

Would have been fun if you took that box to the counter and with your pic showing! Would love to have seen the look on the sales person's face...He probably would have bowed down in reverence of having the presence of the King in his store, if he hadn't recognised you already!!

Really nice model ! I also like your livingroom table.
I would not restore the model and keep it like that. It is 26 years old and the look gives some character to the model and as long as the condition does not get worse ...

In my honest opinion, restore it, if it can be done at a reasonable cost to you, It may just need a bit of a clean up, but looking at the photos provided, some re lettering work and other bits n pieces may be all thats needed to get this good looking plane looking fantastic again. looks a bit rare, so spend the money, hang the expense. It probably will appreciate in value, but its value to you will appreciate even more steve kicic

NO! Don't restore the model! I agree with the "airplane-guy": Just leave it as it is. The condition of your 747 is good - so admire it that way and see the historic value of a model gone through time.

I also have a few display models in 1/100 and 1/50 which I have not touched-up in any way. If you restore them - they just ain't the same!

Here is my Concorde model. Braniff on one side, Air France on the other. Its very yellowed over the years and there is some decal loss. Should I just leave it alone as well, and only restore the decal loss? This is the Ebay photo that got me to purchase.

Hi Herb,

really great model, but it doesn`t look bad ! Some models yellow, okay, that is something one has to accept and the decals on the some models are not so good, but why restore them ??? You got a rare piece of aviation history. Keep it like that. It doesn`t fall into pieces, there is no rust, corrosion or anything else that would destroy the model if you don`t do anything. It is nice with character and history. You are not sending your wife to surgery, because she is getting old and not that attractive anymore ...

Greetings from Germany
Marc

Roughly 8 feet. The seller said that it came out of the Braniff Office in Dallas. An ex-BN employee sold the model to them and it had been in storage for years in their garage.

Recently have been looking for a 1/50 Boeing SST 2707-300. I was contacted by someone, but what a jerk. His offer: "How much will you offer me to go out to the barn to get it for you" Schmuck! Instead of just giving a price he decided to play this stupid game. Now I could care less about the model and have started a custom to be cast in fiberglass. At least mine will have gear, working flaps, and movable nose. Can't stand these people that dont have the nuts to offer a price and be done with it.
