Hi Folks,
recently I got this huge tin toy Boeing 727. It was made by Masudaya in Japan ("TM; Modern Toys"). Size is 61 cm length and 49 cm span. I made it to recover most of the funcions (when I received it, nothing was working...): It has stop 'n go function with sound and noise combined with electric lights and noise (!) in the engines and lights in the wings. (Wing's lights still not yet working). The mechnical system is similar to the system of the Schuco Radiant. The gears are looking very very similar... The shape of the plane is great, close to a scale model (not talking about size..). Question is now: Who knows that model???? I could not find any references anywhere. Of course the smaller 727 by Masudaya (about half the size) is well known, especially since it is a very good miniature as well, but what about this one? Any help appreciated! Greetings Chris |

Aircraft type and livery is the same, but this one posted is a much smaller plane made in Hong Kong with a lot of parts made of plastic.
The big Masudaya 727 (Made in Japan) is nearly completely made of tin. Meanwhile I found a guy, publishing his aircraft toy collection on Squirl, at least remarking, that a big Masudaya 727 is existing as well. But no pictures or other information. |

Hi Chris!
Wow - this 727 looks great!!! As far as I know Masudaya (Modern Toys) made at least two types of these "giant" tin-models: The 727 you have and a Vickers VC-10. You're right: Compared to other tin-toy-manufacturers Masudaya did a great job concerning shapes and sizes of the aircraft! I have a Masudaya VC-10 in my collection - a really huge model with the same functions you mentioned. Like your 727 most parts are also made of tin. Kind regards! Michael

Hello Michael,
thanks for the good advice. I know the VC-10, but I did not realise, that it was made by Masudaya as well. With regard to the VC-10, the 727 can be characterised now and even the value should be possible to estimate now. These are really impressive toys! Chris |

Source was the "big E".
Price was reasonable, considering, that the electric functions did not work when I received it. Also the rear cover of one engine and one wheel cap of front gear is repainted. So all in all OK. |

Yes, then it was your's. A fantastic collection with a lot of great planes in perfect condition.
The "house livery" was rather helpful to keep the price down. Just imagine it would be LH, KLM or SAS, then all these airline-collectors come up and want to get it just because of the colours. |

I have 3 tin boeing 727 like that one, (i think are more or less the same or at least very similar ). All are exactly and are about 50 cm long. I have the planes in boxes and i have to look for them and take some pictures. Are from Jyesa and Modern Toys but are exactly and i think they used same tooling. But they have the belly in plastic instead of tin. All functions are also the same with lights in the wingtips and engines and also they run with jet engine sound. Jyesa planes have Iberia and Lufthansa old liveries and Modern toys plane has boeing livery like the one in the photo. They use 3 big batteries inside. I remember have seen another one in Air France old livery and i think is exactly like the others. I will take pictures of the planes and i will post them soon.
