EL AL models
Hi everyone, I'm new here.....
Maybe I'm not at the right address...but I'm looking for large and high quality El Al models. Any idea how to find former travel agent models for instance?
Any help welcome!
Thanks

Only the usual sources. Ebay. this forum, networking, junk shops, fairs. I have never seen that many large scale El Al models. Seem to remember a Small scale Britannia ash tray model probably by Raise Up.
Western Models did one I think but thats a more recent collectors model as you probably know.
Do you have many El Al in your own collection.

After a short pause.....I'm back....!
eBay has been until now almost my only source for El Al souvenirs.....but scale models are very rarely available... I found a 30cm 707 in second livery in a Paris gallery, and a 93cm 707 also in second livery through a specialized website.
I remember seeing once an ashtray Britannia model on eBay but it was in a really terrible condition.....
I also have a 767 and a 757 at 1:100 wearing my BELOVED AND DEARLY MISSED turquoise livery, but I am still looking for more models especially in these striking colors................
Any new ideas for where and how to find such items.....??
Any help would be very welcome...

I have a twin here? I am also EL AL crazy. Can you tell me more about the two 707's, the 767 and 757? Are they plastic, metal, decalled?

Re: EL AL models
Well, it's not 1:100 or the like, but there's an El Al 707-320 (1:200) on eBay right now. I presume that that's the color scheme you're looking for.

Hi....a twin? Hé hé maybe... I knew I was not the only one with a strong interest in El Al.... there's at least one more ;-) who has written a wonderful book about the airline back in 1990 and who is in the process of publishing a new book in the next few weeks........ I guess you're aware. Now I see there's a third one joining this very select club ;-)...... I would be interested to know what your relation to El Al is......
But for one thing I remain absolutely convinced to be THE number one... There cannot be any other human being as crazy as me about El Al's past corporate identity ;-) ! And "crazy" is really the right word.
With the exception of a tiny 737 in metal, all my models are in plastic. Both 707s are in the basic delivery colors but with the newer logo (with the sloped A). I guess the small model used to be in an El Al office since it's indicated "Property of El Al Israel Airlines"; it is made by Skyland Models and is very detailed, with the famous square logo on both sides of each engine...... The big 707 is really...big but has less details, and the logo on the fuselage is bigger than in reality and in blue instead of black.
The 767 and 757 are from Space Models. The 767 has the original livery with the logo in black and yellow, while on the 757 the logo is in blue and with the Israeli flag (as was the case since 1994). Engines are not painted on both models. The turquoise color is better on these 2 models than on most photographs.....but still....it's very far away from the incredible turquoise shade of the actual livery......
I can send you pics of the models....it would certainly be more interesting than my huge descriptions....

Trust me, if you look hard enough you will find a repro stand of some kind. Also search out your local area (within driving distance) for a model engineer. He will be able to drill and pin and fit a shaped brass wing tip. I've had a 72nd scale connie rudder fitted in the past and you cannot see the join. A paint specialist (try a ceramic restorer/repairer) will probably be able to get a pretty good paint match and patina to match the existing wing. Should only need paint up to the first engine nacelle. Oh...the model engineer can also turn you up some aluminum spinners. DON'T part with it! It ain't that bad.Wish it was mine.

Sure sure!! I absolutely agree. That's why I said "a very nice model", but in retrospect, my words were indeed not strong enough for that absolutely f a b u l o u s item !!
Btw, it's so difficult to find El Al models...it would be great to find someone able not only to fundamentally restore old models, but to build new ones... Any idea.... :-) ?

Wow...seems great! I have never seen decals of such a large scale. I guess they were meant for a rather "professional" use?
And sure, I might be very interested... Do you have by any chance the color code of the turquoise shade?

Re: EL AL models
years ago I made a 1/100 747-400 in EL AL and the light blue on the decal was spot on. the decal was approved by Boeing for the model company. I needed a minor little fill in, so I used Liveries Unlimited decal for the light blue and it was a perfect match, so that is the color you need to look for for the correct shade. I dont have the BAC color code, but will be matched by the auto paint store.

You seem to be a highly specialized model manufacturer...... What is the BAC color code?
All I know (for now) about the turquoise blue is that it is quite close to Pantone 313, this was told to me by Dan Reisinger himself, who created the livery for El Al back in 1971..... But he doesn't know the color code which was used... I could get this information only from El Al or Boeing.
We can of course continue to communicate through this forum, but if you prefer, we might also use e-mails, my address being weilgva@yahoo.com.

Yeah, thanks for the link...although I received an e-mail from another member of this forum directly in my private mailbox, which is MUCH better...
But damn ! I was not able to get it.....it went to some hyperactive eBayer (he buys several items each day...often for several hundreds $)......
Btw...if you happen to see some El Al model or other interesting memorabilia...please do not hesitate to let me know... ;-)

Re: EL AL models
Hi everyone......
I'm still looking for great El Al models...... with almost no success over the last few months or year......
I'm mainly looking for large models with the previous turquoise/navy blue livery and the El Al logo in black and yellow.
But I'm also interested in older models. For instance, I know now that there were large Constellation models of El Al......(at least one!) as well as model(s) of the projected SST Boeing 2707....... I also saw a photograph of a 747 model but in the older El Al livery, a model manufactured before the new (turquoise) livery was designed.
****************************
How could I get the help of collectors worldwide to search that kind of items for me.....?? I would be very interested to get such a help, because by myself I see I am quite unable to find anything. Of course I'm not looking for a free assistance.....and I would pay a percentage of the model price to the person who would have located it (20%, 50%, 75%, 100%?); knowing that those models are usually expensive, it might be interesting.........
Advanced thanks for any ideas.....

Re: EL AL models
Hi again,
5 years and 1/2 have passed since I have launched this thread, and I am still looking for EL AL models...... Especially wearing the striking blue/green livery in use 1971-1999.
If anyone has something available or a useful link, it would be great ;-) !

Maybe it's not quite the right livery. Finding Egyptair items is not easy either

Egyptair is a larger airline, I am sure you might find quite a lot of things in Egypt.....no?

Hali hallo ! How are you doing?
Since 2007 (omg it's crazy how time is...flying) I had some luck, but not much... . I will post some photos of my models.
Actually, apart from one small 707 which I found in a design gallery in Paris in 2008, everything I bought came via eBay. I have not been able to establish any other source for El Al models, while I am sure there must be OTHER ways.

I just had a look on your - fantastic - website and I am almost under shock...! It is INCREDIBLE !! OK, there are much more items concerning LH than LY, but nevertheless it is totally impressive. How do you manage to find so many and wonderful items?! The huge cutaway Jumbo is a dream !

True, Egyptair is indeed larger than EL AL, so you would think that there would be more of their models, and other items around. Like you with EL AL, whilst I like the new Egyptair livery, I collect mainly models etc featuring the old 'blue tail' colours. Still, trying to find these Egyptair models is part of what collecting is all about

It's really sad though because in Italy you can get Alitalia, in Egypt you can get Egyptair, in Germany you can get Lufthansa, In the UK you can get British Airways and in Israel you can't get anything. It's just a struggle that people like me and David go through.

Re: EL AL models
Well, I've made several trips between London and Cairo with Egyptair, and even in their Cairo city office, there was only a 1/25 scale 747 cutaway model. Even that was in their very old red and gold livery. Up until the last trip that I made, Egyptair has never listed any inflight sales models. I did however, have a lucky break after checking in for a domestic flight from Luxor to Cairo. On the counter of the Egyptair ticket desk, there was a 1/200 777 model, in my favourite 'blue tail' livery. I walked over to take a closer look. The young female staff member was very approachable, so I chanced my luck, and asked if I could buy it. She told me to wait a moment, and she went into the little office behind her. Without saying anything, she lifted the model of the counter and said "is ok" I couldn't believe. She lifted it off it's little chrome stand, and even found a small box to put it in. I was astounded, and she would not take any money for it. Maybe the imminent arrival of the new 777-300s, and the new livery helped my chances. If you don't ask, you don't get.

At EL AL.....
But in Luxor MSR777 found someone more cooperative. It all depends on the PERSONS, everywhere and in every situation, that's life. Of course, here our story is anecdotic but it shows once more that things can be sometimes so easily improved by just a little good hearted gesture... Kudos to this EgyptAir employee !
And in case anyone sees an El Al model somewhere in the world....please advise ;-) !

Re: EL AL models
I do hope that she didn't get into trouble for giving the model to me, but she did appear to ask someone first. Kudos to her, I agree.

5 years and 1/2 have passed since I have launched this thread, and I am still looking for EL AL models...... Especially wearing the striking blue/green livery in use 1971-1999.
If anyone has something available or a useful link, it would be great ;-) !
