Tach' auch!
This model was part of the Lufthansa frequent flyer award program (today: "miles and more") of the late 60's early 70's. From the same maker a Viscount is existing as well. Unfortunately there is no indication about the manufacturer, since it is just written "Made in Federal Republic of Germany" on the bottom of the base. Later LH award models were made by Verkuyl (727) and Lutz+Weiss (A300, DC-10). Finally LH stopped this award system and changed to "miles and more".. arghh! Maybe someone else on this forum knows the maker, would be interested as well.Nice avatar .. TCO 727. I do love this tin plate birds. Luckily LH features the Schuco Replica Viscount in the recent miles and more offers, this was the first time for me to discharge my miles for something really usefull! Back to the good old times... ![]() |

Thanks FLIEGER (viele Grüße nach Darmstadt!!!) and ANTHONY for your answers!
I have seen the same 707-model on eBay with a slightly different text on the stand. It just said "Boeing Intercontinental Jet" without mentioning the model-type "707". As far as I know there were three different Verkuyl 727 award-models - depending on the mileage-status: One for 125.000 kilometres, one for 250.000 kilometres and one for 500.000 kilometres. The models also had different colours. Is that correct? Does the same apply to the Lutz&Weiss models? I also like the TCO-jets very much. I have one 720 and two 727s. ![]() ![]() The interesting thing is: The 720 and the 727 seem to have the same basic body and wing structure. Underneath the 727-wings there are four spots to hold the engines if used as wings for the 720. Even the wing-registration D-ABOH is the same on both model-types. The wrong registration on the 727s really had me puzzled before I bought the 720... The 727 comes as a battery-operated model and as a friction model. Anybody know when these planes were built? Kind regards! Michael Last edited by 727pilot; 02-26-2007 at 07:22 AM. |

Hi Michael,
I have just checked the inscription of my 707 and it says "Boeing Intercontinental Jet", so there seem to be different letterings around. Your remarks about the Award Verkuyl 727 are correct. There are three colours existing, copper, silver and gold. As far as I know, Verkuyl used two moulds, one with a detailed third engine and one with an easier engine, where the intake hole is missing. I have the copper one with detailed engine, enough for me.... I am not sure about different colours for the Lutz+Weiss DC-10 (maybe..), but the A300 for sure not. Just silver there, maybe with different mileages printed on the stand. The TCO 727 and 720 have indeed the same body and wings, comparable to the original ones. Boeing used same segments for the manufacturing of the 707/727/737 fuselages (wings were different). And what makes the originals less expensive, is also valid for the tin toy planes.. Regarding the age: I have no solid sources, but TCO stopped the manufacturing of the CV-340 and the Connie in 1968, so these newer models should have replaced them more or less, production maybe lasted until 1973 or so... Greetings to Stuttgart! Chris |

I remember quite well the days, when my grandma took me to Frankfurt Airport on sunny Sundays. There were still these many Japanese tin toy planes able to buy in the local toy shops... Today that Herpa and Inflight stuff sometimes drive me crazy. Dead metal.. ![]() |

I love that 720. It is one of the best-modelled toys I ever seen, and the body is all metal and not part plastic. I don't have one of these yet. There is a photo of this plane in Marchand's book. Was that you who contributed it?

Hi Anthony,
I'm sorry - it wasn't me. Until now I didn't even know of the book... Can you recommend it? There are one or two for sale in online-bookstores over here in Germany - so I might just go ahead and buy a copy.I'm still quite new to collecting - I started in 2002 with a Lufthansa 727 made by Mecater. Since then I have gradually extended my collection which focuses on Lufthansa aircraft - tin toys and travel-agents' models. Kind regards! Michael |

Mecater did also a very nice 707 in scale 1/100, which is superior to the Verkuyl and Raise Up.
Who desperately needs a TCO 707 should have a look at the following store: BLECHKISTE - Flugzeuge Caution: High €€€€€! |
