Default Dinky Toys #998 Bristol Britannia

The Bristol Britannia is a Model 314, and has an accurate shape.

The decals of course should be red rather than blue.

The propellers are not original, but are more realistic: the original props that came with this toy model were red.

Some specialize in just Dinky Toys but I have a few. This is my favorite.

A very nice Dinky model. I am a big fan of the Dinky toys and am collecting the ones I had as a young lad. I tend to buy one, but then see another of the same model in better condition, so buy that and end up selling the previous one. I have 3 of the Lufthansa Boeing 737's in various states. Military toy wise I am sorted with all of them mint in the box examples, but plane wise I only have the Harrier and 737 in very good condition. The other planes are about £80-£100 each ($160-$200) for mint examples, and for the Thunderbird 2 model and the Captain Scarlett SPV I have seen £200-£250 ($400-$500) being asked. The wife and kids will just have to go hungry one month I suppose!

When I was a kid (yes, it was a long time ago), I owned a Dinky Thunderbird 2. At some point as I got older I gave it away with other toys to a thrift store. I wish I had keep that one, holy s*** $400-$500.

You and me both! I was at a local toy fair in January and a mint Captain Scarlett SPV in an unopened box was for sale at £250. At current exchange rates that's just about about $500. (£1 = $1.94)

I estimate that to get the Dinky's I'm after in mint boxed condition will cost me about £900 - $1800, give or take the odd cent.

Back in those days I didn't care about the boxes toys came in, I just ripped them apart and played with the toy. At the end of the day it got slung in the toy box with all the rest. Someone must have been thinking ahead though and put an extra one or two away in the attic as investments.
