Question MD-11 VASP Big model - What is it worth ???

Because I am normaly collecting 1:400 scale I've no idea how much this big MD-11 VASP model is worth.

Any realistic comments concerning the price are more than welcome as I have now the chance to buy this model.

Wink The girl is already in my hands...

I took my chance and since we meet in 2000 we are together, married now with two beautiful kids (a boy 3 years and a girl 5 month).

And therefore this model is very special for us because in 2000 my wife (born and grown up in Salvador da Bahia) was working for VASP in their Frankfurt office. At that time VASP was flying directly from FRA to SSA. After they canceled their international flights my wife worked for VARIG here at FRA (see the pic inside of their MD-11) and later for TAM (see the pic inside their Frankfurt office) since their started their FRA service on my birthday, June 18th 2001.

The model from the VASP Frankfurt office is now on offer special for us for the price of EUR 400. For a little family this amount is realy a lot and therefore it is hard for us to decide to take it or not (even concerning the memories we have with it).

So any comments are welcome to help us to make up our mind.

Well... your incredible and wonderful story makes me speachless! What was a joke is now something that is really uncommon: you did it man!
It's now clear that "CARPE DIEM" is well known in Mainz, you didn't loose your chance, two thumbs up my friend! I'm happy to ear that you have such a nice family and it's rare to have the opportunity to find that plane available.
It's also clear that it's not cheap.
Now the point is the fallowing: why don't you ask a little help to the DAC members? This is a site of aviation enthusiasts, there are 3987 members if only a 10% will help you with one euro the plane will became a "DAC members gift", why not to try?
Write in a thread your paypal address (and your story) explaining the situation, give to dreamers (like me) a chance to make these things possible, why not to try?
By the way it's your choice so you'll decide what to do, just my two words, Ciao!

Lollo

Red face Thanks Lollo...

That is an intereting idea but I am affraid that I could n't do such a thing.

I am so glad to have a lucky and most important healthy family with no big worries and therefore I couldn't ask for more.

On the other side of course this for us a very special model which will give to us something like a final touch.

Therefore I'll see the other comments on this iwithin this tread and decide what to do.

Still Air,

As a brazilian I must say that the VASP livery is fantastic. I also love the VASP 732 and MD-11. I have the GJ 1:400 here in my cabinet.

Congratulations for your family. I am very happy for you! I also have a wife and a 3 years old kid that loves airplanes specially the VARIGs and GOLs.

I think Lollo had a great idea! I am in for helping you on that issue. It would be a great Christmas gift to your family. I think the model is expensive but you DESERVE it because your wife was a VASP employer and also 'cause this MD-11 must bring so good memories to you. If you don´t buy it you will regret your self for sure.

Greetings from your friend in brazil

Abraços

Otávio Santos

StillAir,

nice story, lots of memories... and if it comes to the price tag... EUR 400 is a very very attractive price.... I pressume the model is a PacMin or Space Models... and in that scale they usually trade for EUR 800+, depending on airline and livery... with VASP being so specially, this model could easily fetch that EUR 800+ on ebay, so the EUR 400 is a very sweet offer.

In 1/100, this model would go for about EUR 250 minimum.

Cheers

Hi StillAir,
I hope you'll get "your" Vasp MD-11, in the meantime a little present for your missing avatar: maybe you'll find something interesting, Ciao!

It's A Fair Price, But I Would Offer 200. If You Feel You Must, Try 250 To 300.

At The Ocktober Toronto Show Someone Had A 747 With Cut-Away & Full Interior Details, But He Would't Part With It For Less Than $2,500.00 CAD. But That Was A One Off Custom With Seats, Lavs, Galleys,Stairs To The Upper Deck, The Whole Works! Plus It Was Twice As Big As That!

You Know...I Can't Remember. But I Think There Was No Livery. Just A Generic Red Stripe. If It's At The Feb Show, I'll Take Pics For You.

Very nice. You have two good looking sons, and a great wife! Good luck with the family, and as far as the model goes, good luck as well!

Default Nice VASP MD-11 model option!

Hi StillAir,
Stories like yours makes us feel reassure that we will all continue with our passion for airliners models!.
I asked myself how could I help you...then I remembered! Have you ever heard about Atlantic Models? They make some real fine aircarft models in many scales. Mr. Roger Jarman is a friendly customer support oriented guy. On their website the offer a 1/100 scale VASP MD-11 model for USD$335.00
(not bad, ugh?).
Their website is: http://www.atlantic-models.com/main.htm
You can see the model at: http://gallery.bcentral.com/GID47939...ASP-MD-11.aspx
Good luck with your quest, and please do keep us informed on the outcome!.
Regards, Marco.
