Hi, I have the following model of a 747-300 in SIA livery regno 9V-SKA.
The following notes/questions: 1. Are these forums only for die cast models? 2. This model is made from wood, apparently made in Philippines. 3. Can anyone identify the manufacturer? 4. Could you estimate a value? Will appreciate your time and comments. I am offering this model for sale. It is in perfect condition. The chrome stand was "saddled" to a piece of wood for stability, this can be easily removed. What offers? It is currently listed on http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/jsp/BidFor...radeId=1735324 Regards Last edited by MD89; 08-28-2005 at 02:18 PM. |

Hi there,
You are definately in the right forum for this kind of model. Check out the forum headings and you will see that all tastes are catered for on here. Are you 100% sure that your 747 is wood? as I had one that was identical to yours, it even had the same design of stand (without the wooden addition) and was made by the company Supermodels in resin. If yours is indeed from the Philippines then identifying the manufacturer will be difficult as there are literally dozens of small factories turning these out, some very fine such as yours and some absolute "dogs" that have nothing but a passing resemblence to the planes they claim to be. In my own opinion putting a value on the wooden models can be difficult as SOME, but not all, tend to be very inconsistant in quality and in my experience some collectors won't touch them, although I have a few in my collection and I'm quite happy with them. A fair price would be between £150 and £190 for yours, if it is wood it may be difficult to get more. Hope this reply helps but as I say its only personal opinion and others here may beg to differ....Good Luck with the sale!

Thank you for the feedback InterFlug62M,
I am now reasonably certain that it is made from wood. The only place where it is visible is where the stand enters the belly, there a fine grained wood is visible. Also if you knock on it it sounds like wood. It is not very heavy though. My dad was an expatriate 747 pilot for SIA and the model was bought by a friend who flew Airbuses for SIA (not a 747 flight to Manila from SIN). The fact that it was was bought by a pilot (cost US$100 around 1989) should indicate that it is not a "dog" (-: . My Dad recently scaled down, a friend wanted to buy it, but never did and now it is still with me. I don't have space for it, but it really is beautifully made. Thank you again for your answer. |

You are most welcome......No way did I wish to imply that your model is a "dog" I hope that you were not offended by the remark, but I have been collecting these things for around 25yrs now and boy have I come across some! Make sure that you really want to part with it...sometimes they really are irreplacable, I can remember many that I now wish I'd hung on to!
