Did any of you guys see the KLM Connie that was on e-bay? It ended yesterday, and I only saw it in the last several hours. I was going into up my bid when my computer took a header. I asked the seller if he had any info on it or other pictures than the one provided with the listing. No other pictures or clues to whomade this one. I think at 700mm it works out to be about 27 inches in wingspan...probably a little longer in length. If anyone here knows about this model, please enlighten me..please, please, please!
e-Bay item number was 6517949169 |

here are some:
1) Alps - made in Japan - N5171V with wing tip tanks; 2) Tipp Co - made in Germany, D-ALOP w/ battery pack 3) Tipp Co - earlier KLM with friction drive "TFQ" (slightly different from real registration).

M404, it appears to be a battery operated toy from possibly Japan. Here is a pic of what I am in the middle of restoring right now. 30.5" ws 30 " body. It will be TWA livery when complete (as original) It was overpainted in AeroMexico when I got it. Registration No. was N17061. If any one has any info on this reg. No. please let me know, I an looking for an original photo of this plane with same reg No.

Do you mean N7106C?
I could not find a Super Connie of any airline registered N17061 in the Piston Engine Airliner Production List.

I wanted to get it back to as original as possible In the pic above you can see on the left wing the spot where the TWA decal has been rubbed away. The AeroMexico paint job looked like it wsa done in krayon, so the best thing I could think of was to restore it back to original.

Voodoo, I'm not sure you are asking for this answer, but I believe the model you have is/was originally a "Peter Nelson" model from England (circa 1954-55) of which there have been several on e-bay lately. I cannot confirm the registraion number is the same yet, but I am still working on verifying it.
Mr Duva, the wealth and breadth of your knowledge on this topic/subject matter never ceases to amaze me. I hope you are keeping notes somewhere so that we may have the honor of someday being as keen eyed and informed as you my friend! Thanks to all of you for keeping this topic alive..keep the loop lit! |

Scott,
it looks like you're making those models in your kitchen,.... same as I do... By the way: What kind of decals are you using? There are no commercial decals available for a Connie in scale 1/50, so what is remaining is laser-printed or painting ![]() |

Regarding the reg.-Nr.:
Maybe TWA was as "clever" as Lufthansa, when they ordered the 707 models from Verkuyl in scale 1/100 and 1/50: They advised Verkuyl to use a reg.-Nr. being not existing in reality, and finally D-ABOZ was used (really never existed). The background of this request was to avoid scrapping the models in the travel agent offices, when the original plane would have crashed down.... Sounds strange, but considering the costs for the volume of models ordered by LH, it is feasible. Now I would recommend to use a real reg.-Nr. for this model, even though it may not be the original one of the model. |

I was going to either paint on the letters and numbers or make my own decals, I haven't decided yet.

Correct, for example all models made for the Belgian SABENA were registered OO-SAB, a registration never used on a SN plane!

But only in case of Constellation.
OO-SAB is a registration, which was used for many SN planes. Today it should be an A340. In earlier times it was used for DC-6. I have an old Raise Up model of DC-6 with this registration and it is correct. |

No problem... quick shot into the glass cabinet.
Scale is 1/80, model is in original condition except the props, which are Aeroclub replacement parts. |

flieger, I like that plane a lot, SABENA DC-6, the tail looks more DC-4 (ie rounder)!

Dear Flieger,
MANY THANKS for the picture...I love this model...It's an early Raise Up Dc6 because the cheatline windows are still completely black and have no drawings inside like the later models...A pic for a pic so here it is...It's a Dc6 Douglas Factory, all original, no retouches, near MINT 1/48...Props are repro.Any metal cuatways? Kind regards |

Hi guys, What flieger stated that the registration is correct is true regarding what was used on models, but never on the real planes! In my modest modelmakers opinion, when you would like to refurbish a model then OO-SAB is the answer but not for a new built model then it looks 'stupid'. Indeed the Raise-Up models are not correct copies of the Douglas propliners. But even the magnificent Douglas Marketing Aid models do have design faults (nose). The better shaped models of the fifties and sixties were made by companies as Fermo/Osgaard, Verkuyl and Walkers/Westway. The best Connies were those manufactured by Peter Nelson, really great models! Check www.art-aviation.com or www.aviationmodels-online.com for pictures. Happy building and collecting! |

I guess, you can spend nights over nights with the discussion on tail shapes of desk models DC-4/6/7. Sometimes it is even hard to figure out DC-6 from DC-7.... ![]() |

you seem to have very sharp eyes..... attached a full pic of the Comet. And before you are going to start making a riddle about the model in the background of this pic.... it is a 1/50 727 Condor by Raise Up ![]() (in fact we could make a game out of that...) |

Nice Comet,
Love this one...Also as we play a pic for a pic here is my next model. Because I suppose (this is only a supposition) that you like LH...Here is my nicest LH cutaway, it's a A300 mint with working interior lights, no retouches, scale 1/50... Have a nice week-end...Hope we'll be able to continue playing this game... ![]() |

Nope, Game Over!
The final one is one of my highlights, a near mint Raise Up DC-8 KLM, scale 1/100, mounted on original stand. Last edited by flieger; 06-03-2005 at 05:01 PM. |
