Exclamation Corgi is making me crazy! 1:64 scale Tactical Strike Series

I found this over on Diecast Hobbies (http://www.diecasthobbies.com/116/cat116.htm?373).

US95141 USN VF-2 "Bounty Hunters" F-14D Tomcat

US95121 USA 160th SOAR, Ft. Campbell, KY, AH-6J Little Bird

US95132 USA, 1st Bat, 3rd Aviation Regiment, 3rd ID, AH-64D Apache Longbow

US95122 USA, 2nd Bat, 69th Armored, 3rd ID, M1A1 Abrams Tank

US95123 USMC, 2nd Tank Battalion, 1st Marine Div., M1A1 Abrams Tank

US95104 USA 82nd Airborne, Ft. Bragg, NC, HMMWV Avenger Missle System

US95112 USA 3rd Infrantry Division M2A2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle

US95105 USMC 2nd Marine Reconnaissance HMMWV M1097A2

There are also supposed to be two (2) 6-piece infantry sets, but they don't have any photos posted: 1) US95103 1st Marine Div. Woodland Camouflage; and 2) US95102 3rd Infantry Div. Desert Camouflage.

Maybe this will light a fire under Dragon so that they can seriously consider releasing some helicopter gunships in 1:72 scale!

That's a pretty high "parking" angle on that Apache...otherwise pretty nice stuff. Ya'know...it was just yesterday when I said "I need a new scale to collect" - and BAM! Here it is!

Gavman,

You are a hard-core military collector, but don't you think all that weathering and mud looks a bit exaggerated? I am looking at the "Avenger Missle System" and can't figure out how did all that mud get onto the missile launchers

If they were 1/72 I would probably be less picky
Unlike newsnerd99, I am not so keen on starting another scale!

With all of that mud, I wonder if the wheels can still roll!

Well these are the strangest scale for Corgi in a while! As I'm sure everyone appreciates armour is traditionally either 1/76 (1/72nd more and more it seems)or 1/35th scale. But no Corgi's is 1/50th or 1/64th!... still I'm sure they know what they're doing, no really, stop laughing at the back. On the plus side the models look nice enough although as mentioned the Apache sits way too high. I've never even heard of the models or range before I'll have to ask how the idea came about, and why I didn't get to make the prototypes!

Just from the seam on the Tomcat, it looks like it will have functioning variable geometry wings. Then again, the picture may not be entirely correct since there are NO pilots even though this particular production sample is clearly in midflight!

How big exactly is a 1/64 tomcat going to be?? Seems kind of large if my calcs are correct. Also, the price seems fairly reasonable for such a large diecast item when compared to other 1/72 models (not complaining of course). Are these models surely going to be diecast? I find it odd these items aren't listed on Corgi's site and yet they're going to be out later this month....I hope this info isn't screwed up. Any other sites confirm these releases? Sorry for all the questions...

Ehh, F-14 looks off overall. Canopy/fuselage. Also, like 99.99% of all F-14D models/toys/drawings/art it has the wrong rear fuselage engine fairings. Yeesh, they've had the new style since the F-14B in 1986, yet still no one ever gets it right and makes it like an A with new nozzles. It's more than that, the whole back end changed to accomodate GE's.

Does anyone have these models yet? I ordered them from the DH site and they're scheduled to arrive Thursday. Anyway, just anxious so see pics or hear feedback about these.

We just started getting these in, so I thought I'd post some pictures. The F-14 has much more of a pale blue hue than the stock Corgi photo would suggest. Also, the size of the model caught me by surprise; I thought it was actually 1:72 scale at first but I guess 1:64 really isn't too far off that! One interesting point is that Corgi used more plastic in this model than their Aviation Archive range. The fuselage itself is metal but the wings and all tail surfaces are plastic...

More information on our product page here.

Cheers,
Martin.
