Post Revell diecast, Air/Sonic Aces

Who else of you is in the collection of the early 90's Revell diecast Air and Sonic Aces?
I recently completed my collection by grabing the F-14 Tomcat and Tornado, which were never produced according to official records from late 90's.

The Tornado has a phantastic sound+light, simulating a starting and landing aircraft.
F-14 shape is not bad, compared to the other models of this series. Unfortunately the batteries are empty...

Anybody of you has one of these models as well?

Default Revell Diecast

A real blast from the past.

I remember buying these and Ertls in the 80s and early 90s while in Berlin. Like Schabaks they were a waterhole in an otherwise dry toy shop.

I did manage to get the Tornado and the F14 in an old model shop in Vienna, it was like stepping back in time. It had lots of Aurora kits (including the MBT 70, which I also bought). I see you have the Gulf pink version (the Ertl was too dark) I also managed to get a Luftwaffe version in Vienna (sorry, no photo its somewhere in a box in England!)

I like these and the Ertls because you can pick them (and yes, I admit it, play with them). The CDC 1:100 series might be accurate but they are dull, as they have no undercarriage and the weapons fall off easily. Sadly toys are poor sellers and there is more money in the model versions.

Enjoyed the trip down memory lane!

Also enjoyed seeing Cider's super Schabak stuff

Arrow models / toys / models / toys / models / toys....

Hi Ralph,

thanks for sharing the info on the Sonic Aces. The Tomcat and the Tornado must be rather rare, since they are mentioned only as "planned by Revell" in the famous book of Sue Richardson "Die Cast Toy Aircrafts". And she usually reports about ANY stuff ever produced anywhere. But in spite of the info given in this book, Revell obviously did them in a small volume.

I have the Ertls as well. Got most of them all at once from a collector, the missing ones I purchased seperately on Ebay.

I agree to your stance on CDC. I had a lot of CDC in 1/100 and 1/48, but I sold them all. They are missing any kind of charme and robustness. My roots are still located in the toy section......

And yes, aircraft toy prices are down. That's from my aspect caused by Internet, because the accessability of these toys improved a lot by Ebay. And still many pieces are out there.

However... yes, you can play with them....

Cheers!

Chris
