hey Gavin,
I have actually bought that "PLAAF Su-27"...and I don't hate it....but leaving that aside, my assumption was correct: they used that same mould, added canard wings and will release it as a "naval flanker". I think they always had that naval version in mind when they desinged the so-called "su-27".... |

B-huj,
I agree, it's a shame about some of the technical inaccuracies, but I still think these models hold up well as part of any 1:72 modern jet fighter collection. I may be a little biased though; I've always admired the lines of the Su-27 and I do get a kick out of seeing mine sat next to a much smaller Dragon Models F-16! It does seem odd that they didn't simply make a two different nosewheels and leave the tailhook off of the Su-27. Seems to me that these two features have easily and cheaply been fixed without any changes to the main mold. Still, I am looking forward to the Su-33s coming out. Oh, and Gavman, I know that east-west relations are much better these days, but there's still something funny about seeing those "armed to the teeth" Flankers sat on the ramp, right in front of Air Force One. ![]() Cheers, Martin. ![]() |

For one thing, this grey plane looks more accurate than the previous "Chinese PLAAF" version...Although I must look into documentation to verify the existence of a GREY naval flanker....
I have the slight impression this may be yet another fantasy model. Talking about fully loaded flankers intercepting AF1. My copy of the PLAAF Flanker will sit by the Dragon ROCAF F-16s soon, and I am sure they will get along better than their real-world counterparts. And cross-strait ties are not at their best...especially with presidential elections in Taiwan coming soon. Last edited by B-huj; 10-19-2003 at 03:17 AM. |
