I am sad. Giodi decided to go ahead with the highly innacurate Chinese Su-27. It is painted in the Russian livery (blue camouflage), comes with a Naval Flanker's nose gear...and an arrester hook!
notice the hook? (this is the Russian version, but the Chinse version is the same mould with different decals!) If I am not wrong, the Naval Flanker is called Su-33 and should have cannard wings, which this model lacks. In any case, China does not openly own any Carrier-borne Flanker.... look at the real thing....notice the nose landing gear? it is one sigle wheel w/mudgard...unlike the naval version (on the model) no matter su-27 or -30....they are all grey! ![]() Last edited by B-huj; 09-03-2003 at 06:07 AM. |

notice the nose gear and the canard wings? I am not sure what is wrong with Giodi, they are not the first ones to ever make a 1/72 su-27, why didn't they do a decent research before releasing such a monster? There are plenty of kits and photos of both the Russian Su-27 and the Chinese versions.... Now both Russian and Chinese models are out there, with fully fledged innacuracies and priced 300HK$...I would love to have a diecast Flanker in my collection, but these models...what should I do!?!??! There comes a time in every collector's life when you are faced with models that you love, tolerate, or hate. It may be that these latest Giodi/Gaincorp releases won't be frontline fighters for you, with you perhaps putting them towards the rear of your display. Then again, these models just might make you crazy, so that you resort to sending them to the boneyard or some other like measure.
For me, the Forces of Valor jets and helicopters were truly dreadful, and if I had a digital camera at the time, I would have risked the wrath of everyone on this forum by sharing the pain and frustration of these inked-in recessed panel line wonders with all of you. With that being said, I'm sure that you will make a decision that you will be comfortable with... Unless of course, you can't. If that's the case, then I can only suggest that you consult the greatest business-management decision-making device ever developed... The Magic 8-Ball... ![]() And if you don't already have your own personal Magic 8-Ball, you can follow this link to The Public 8 Ball. ![]() Last edited by gavman; 09-04-2003 at 01:18 AM. |

interesting link, Mr. Yee.
Unluckily, all I got from the public ball was a blank screen. Does that mean: NO anyway, next week I will be in Hong Kong and will see the model in person in order to give it one last chance. In the unlikely event that I suddenly feel the "NEED" to have it on my shelves....then I will spend the dollars and bring it home. Otherwise I will let it to rust and/or evaporate on the shelves of the retailer or other collectors. And, about those "Forces of XXX" you talk about...I had the unpleasant (amusing?) experience of visually evaluating some of their models (a helicopter and a f-14? not sure what they were...) and could clearly appreciate the psycotic obsession with inking recessed panels and their idea of "weathering". I immediately tought about your comments and let a grin appear on my otherwise disgusted face. |
