Default SUMO Possibilities...

I was wondering if we can get together on one type of airplane and once we have 5 models among us plaec an order.
It's worth a try!

I would not be interested in regular modern types in 1/100 but would be interested in classic types (DC8, 707, Convair 880) and props, maybe something like the Ruskie prop posted or other prop types.
Maybe a RJ?
Would also be interested in Caribbean props from any era and what about an airboat.
Hmmm maybe a PAA B-314 in 1/50 or 1/72 or somewhere in between...
Lets start throwing names around and maybe we can get the ball rolling... I don't five similar models so together we can maybe make this happen.... Here would be some of my top choices

PAA B-314 in 1/50
TransCarribean DC-8 in 1/100 or bigger
TransCaribbean 727-100 or 200
Caribair nc CV580 in 1/50
Caribair oc DC3 in 1/32
Prinair Heron in a BIG scale maybe 1/32 or something like that.
Cubana Britannia in 1/72 or bigger
LH Avro RJ (like the one posted on SUMO thread)

Interesting list!

I'd certainly be interested in a PAA B-314, some other models I'd be interested in are,

BOAC Comet 1
Aeroflot Tu104
USN P3 Orion
Luftwaffe Fw200 Condor
USAF B36
USAF B57

Any more idea's?

Just about anything on these lists would work for me, with special consideration going to the PAA B314 as long as it's not Clipper Dixie (I already have one of those in 1:100) the TCA(Carribean version) DC8, BOAC Comet 1 and the Condor.
In addition how about a,

Aeroflot Tu-114
Trans Canada L1049
TCA(Canadian version), CPA or RCAF Northstar (Argonaught)
RCAF or CPA Comet 1
Martin Mars in FSFT colours
Canadair Argus
RAF Nimrod
Any Stranraer

Hey E, is that Heron you mentioned the twin or four engine variety?

Here's a shot of the two Mars with Hawaii Mars in the foregroung and Philippine Mars in the background

Good call on the Stranraer Ozz, I'd be in if there was a campaign to get one of those, I'd love a Southampton too. Before it was my aim to obtain a set of the designs of RJ Mitchell from another model manufacturer, RJ is probably my greatest hero in aviation

PS. Nice picture!

Well well...if it isn't the usual suspects!
Ozz for the record lets say the Heron with FOUR engines!
BTW the Heron twin of fame came back with four engines... another "classic encounter of the model airliner world!"

Well the only common choice seems to be the B315 but if Ozz has one and I do have one also(althought not as good as I think these SUMO's could be!) but you guys agree on the Stranaer contraption which I had never heard of until you guys started mentioning it.
That huge air boat looks awesome... but too outside my range of collection,,trying to focus... what about an obscure PAA airboat like the Consolidated Commodore air boat?
Or a PAA Ford Tri-Motor 5-AT?
OR historic route with something like an Earnhardt KLockheed Electra?
I['m tempted to get one of those SUMO ruskie prop but it fits nowhere in my collection and I HAVE TO FOCUS!

Ozz, if you could post Stranaer pics here to see if there is interest in that route, I would sign up for that oe, so we would only need TWO MORE!

I wonder if the livery has to be the same on all five or is it just the airframe?
If the latter is true, then I could possibly be in for two, a RAF version, preferably the old "BXO" currently in the Hendon museum and a Queen Charlotte Airlines (sans guns) the only airline to have been brave enough to use the type in scheduled service.
Another thought would be a Chalks Mallard or Albatros.
Justin, I second your thoughts regarding the great RJ Mitchell, not nearly enough has been written about this leader in aerodynamic design.
Here's a Strannie pic.

Well that is a nice looking airboat!
I remember the guy who posted here for SUMO mentioned the models could have different REG but they had to be basically the same model and livery.
I'm surprised no ne else has posted here with some ideas/alternatives...
This airboat is the type of model we should try to get, as is probably one that would never be dome otherwise!
Was this an RAF coastal command plane?
Used by Royal Navy?
The Goose might be ore appealing to other collectors... any ideas of liveries?
I remember one in a variation of PanAm colors...
We must find "common ground" somehow!

Great picture Ozz! My preference would be for a military Stranraer, but I'd be in for a Canada civilian model if that's what others vote for.
About the Stranraer, it was essentially a development of the Scapa used for maritime patrol and recon by the RAF and RCAF, sadly it was another of those inter war designs that whilst being a superb design had a short career as technology was advancing so fast at the time.

Short career in the military perhaps but Queen Charlotte Airlines pre Pacific Western Airlines was still flying thiers in the 50's. Yikes!
In fact CF-BXO, the one in the Hendon museum was withdrawn from QCA service in 1957 then after a brief stint in private hands became my personal airliner as she rotted in a T-hangar on the PWA ramp.
It was a sad day for me when the two Shorts Belfasts came and took her away.
Here's a post QCA shot of BXO.

The military type looks very sharp.
maybe a couple of other collectors would sign up and then we would get our hopes dashed by our friends at SUMO...the plane might be too hard to make! jajaja!
I have been thinking about other "common ground" alternatives and it is not easy!
What about something historic like Lindbergh's "Spirit of St Louis"?

That might get 5 on board!

I would readily get onboard for a military version, as long as it's not the cammo version.
If these guy's are unwilling or unable to produce this model then a rethink for a common choice could be fun.
I think the Spirit of St Louis has been done to death and for me would not be unique enough.
Your suggestion of something Pan Am would be good as PAA has touched just about everyone worldwide in some way or another.
How about a Lysander, that would capture my imagination.
I don't really have a theme here other than picking up aircraft that I coveted as a kid so anything that is interesting to look at and appeals to me would work.
This could be fun indeed.

Lysander eh?
Here is a pic:

want to see if this works to post others.
Something PanAm would be a choice for me right of the bat, particualrly something OLD!

My apologies Ozz! Forgot about Queen Charlotte Airlines I think if we did get serious about doing a Stranraer then the best bet would be to track down the old Matchbox 1/72 kit, that was a superb little kit in it's day and was very accurate in terms of shape and size to my eyes, I'm not sure if it's been re-issued by Revell yet.
Some more great suggestions, Ed is a wicked man to include that Finnish Buffalo! A Catalina would be fantastic, another major aircraft that is sadly absent from too many model collections. The Lysander certainly interests me too.
So far it seems to be Eduardo, Ozz and I, we need another two volunteers, come on guys, surely there are two more prepared to give it a punt!

You're killing me here, that Blenheim looks good as does the Storch and whoa, BEAUFIGHTER CITY!!
The Lockheed Sirius that Chuck and Anne Lindbergh used to pioneer the way to the orient would interest me big time.
And along the Justin train of thought how about a Supermarine S6B like the one that won the Schneider Trophy in '31 with a speed well over 400mph. That would get me gooshy!
Man, the possibilities are endless!

Here's the S6B.

Oh yes, an S6B would definately rock my boat!! What a beautiful machine, just stunning
A couple of years ago I got into an argument with my old school, I discovered by accident one of the S6B pilots attended my old school, I was amazed. Anyway I wrote to the school suggesting t was a poor show that I only found out by accident and proposed a small plaque or something to commemorate the event and the pilot. Well needless to say the response was "what's the Schneider Trophy?" and why would we be interested in that? I bet if the school had been home to some former lesbian single mother gay rights activist leader of the Communist party or something they'd commission a statue in gold but a true British hero is ignored and deemed insignificant, crikey that made my blood boil!! Well I gave the headmaster a piece of my mind on the subject, I don't expect any invitations to school reunions anymore, ha ha!!

OK!
So there is another common thread here I like the S6B also and would join that effort!
We now need two more and them or even before check with SUMO if they can do military or lets say odd types(non regular of the mill commercial types).
For those "regular types" there are plenty around but the ones we have been throwing around here will probably never be made into models unless through an effort like this!

Spending big bucks for me usually involves a plane that can't be done with kits/decals , at least not easily.
So how about (even tho I've scratch built this below) an Avro Canada Jetliner?
Or a Trans Canada L-18 Lodestar?

Here's some QCA Strannie graphics tho:

WOW Niels the QCA graphic you posted is a beauty!
Couold you post some images of the two others you mentioned.
Tha AVRO RJ is nice but after seeing all these other sexy types I'm hoping we could manage something a bit more exotic!

OK, I'll bite, after much debate and trying to keep with the common choices, drum roll please,

1-Stranraer

2-S6b

3-Lysander

The Catalina/ Canso was also high on the list but only if it was a gear down version and not "Strawberry five".
Since there were so many local Cats here on the wet coast, Canadian Pacific, QCA, PWA, RCAF and of course the fire fighters I would prefer to get a Bader example in a livery close to home.
To date however, I have never seen a decent model of the Lizzie, or the other choices for that matter.
Great list Justin!
Ed?
Lurkers?

Man, you really love the flying APU farm a lot don't you?
I concidered a 146 but it would have to be in the old Air BC livery and that would not go over well with the other five, so it did not make the cut.
Cool A/C though especially with the brakes deployed.

Of the 7 choices there are two in common with Ozz and justin, the Stranraer and S6b so I will go with those two and as a third choice must go with PBY over the Lysander although the Lysander's story with special operations in WWII made it interesting...
And I tell you once Niels posted than QCA I know nothing about the airline but it looks very good... of course we still need two more free spirits and then SUMO can always tell us that it can be an AVRO or na AVRO or a 747! then presidential has a leg up on all the rest of us!

Niels threw in a couple of more in the mix and the image that has made me think of a Stranraer for the first time oin my life! jajaja!
Heck I can't even spell than name ...who was Stranraer?

SUMO guy could ump in here and help us out...does he ever come around this board?
What about Garindan?
Any of his models out?
Can yo
