Hey Guys!
Look what my little sister presented me yesterday for birthday! She organised via Ebay, it's an old Lintoy NASA 747 with Space Shuttle. Little scratches and some yellowed decals, but overall very nice. Retractable wheels, good shape! That's what I call a sister! Cheers Chris |

Very good - My mom gave me one over 20 years ago and I have it right here, mint!
This is an original contemporary. The Dragon Wings version is merely a wanna-be! ![]()

Once ago I purchased a small collection of unplayed Lintoys. I used the opportunity of receiving the NASA 747 now to scrap my Corgis of scale 1/144, which were placed in one of my glass cabinets, and to replace them by the Lintoys. I am very satisfied and ask myself, why I ever took those Corgis. The character of the old toys was never matched again by any manufacturer of new aircraft models or toys. Need a time machine..... ![]() |

"You must have been a well educated child, if the model is still mint after 20 years"
Actually I was 16 at the time, old enough to know better! When I was about 7 years old I started to collect Matchbox vehicles and it was then that I learned to take good care of them. If I wanted one to play with I would get a duplicate. You should have seen how we played with planes and stuff when we were little. They had plastic props then, and the blades broke off so easily. I have one photo in which mom had put tape around the edges of a battery-operated 707's metal wings because they had sharp edges. Sometimes I wonder how kids could play with the things and not get scratched or cut. Many of the 1950s tin planes had sharp tabs holding the fuselages together right on top where a kid would put his hands to hold the plane.

Yep!
The issue you are talking about is the reason for the big dilemma, why there are no more collectable toys existing on the current toy-market, at least not to our understanding. I do not believe, that there was really the risk of scratching or cutting the skin by playing with tin toys, but the risk of losing small parts of the toys, which could get swallowed by the child, was really high. So the toys had to become more "simple" and solid. And there is another thing, what is different to past time: In the past, toys were bought by the parents and presented to the childs. So finally, the parents (!) must be convinced by the toy's quality. Today: Toys were sold directly to the childs, since their weekly income is possibly higher than your's....... So new age toys need to convince directly the childs. This means, that purple colour with green stars is now more important than retractable undercarriage....... ![]() |

You MUST be thinking specifically of the current line of Skybusters! Yecch! They do have two interesting castings, a Canadair Water Bomber and a Lake Pusher Amphibian, but those colors! ![]()
