Arrow (1/100) Skymarks A320s, B737s and MD80s!!

Hello guys!!

I've recently started to collect 1/100 Skymarks models and they are fantastic!!
I know they are not diecast, missing details here and there, but in general,
they look great.

They come in considerably narrow boxes, so they are easy to store.
Considering they are made of plastic, they have very nice weight to them too.
Especially, I only collect aircraft models with gears, so my answer to this was
Skymarks, no Pacmins... (I can't even afford them anyway)

I don't have Skymarks A380 yet, but nose gear looks very funny.
Although many of you arge me to get one and try out, I think I might in the
future. Narrow bodies' landing gears are OK. Not completely fantastic, but
acceptable. I know A320 family nose gear look a bit small and
B737 family nose gear tire look a bit too big and goes on. But I am not
going to be a crazy picky collector complaint about them. Overall I am very
happy with 1/100 Skymarks. I strongly arge others who haven't tried out,
definitely try out! I instantly fell in love with my 1st model.

My favorite 1/200 models are from hogans and only thing that bothered me was chrome
shinny wheel hubs. If you paint them, the model looks so much better, let me tell you.
I am no pro kit builder either. I did build 1/200 Hasegawa airliners when I was young,
but no longer builds static kits anymore. I don't have time to do it.

Back to 1/100 Skymarks, just like the 1/200 hogans, you can paint the wheel hubs and
the models look 100 times better. Little bit of weathering helps too. I'm not going to
weather the whole plane, just the gears, not even landing gear struts. Just the wheel
hubs.

I tried out with 1/100 Skymarks Thai B737-400 and the result was good.

Problem with the nose gear is that, it has no details, it just flat surface, so it is very
difficult to weather. So compare to main gears, it's not a wow, but this is the best I can.

Painted with Tamiya "Sky Grey" It is much lighter when just painted it, but weathered with
"Tamiya Weathering Master" color "Oil Stain" If only the hubs had more moulded details,
the highlight effect could've been better.

Main gears are easier to weather as they do have some moulded details.
As you all aviation experts know, B737 family main gear's outside hubs are painted to
match the fuselage as they are exposed even retracted. So I painted Tamiya "White"
(Gloss) then lightly weathered in center to make it look used. However the inside hubs,
I'm sure the actual planes have same color as the nose gear hub, but everytime I go to
airport, in my eyes, main gear hubs were more dirty and darker, so I used Tamiya
"Neutral Grey" then again, "TWM" "Oil Stain" These main gear turned out great.

Tamiya Grey colors are from "Sky Grey" -> "Light Grey" -> "Neural Grey" -> "Dark Grey"
order, just in case you guys wonder.

Let me tell you guys, the model looks so much better in person...
I am no photo expert so please kindly understand the quality of the pictures.
I took them with my iphone.

In general I think the model looks better, again I am no pro-builder but very picky too,
but I like it a lot. Well, better than nothing. Better than chrome shinny toy looking hubs.
BUT, you pro builders, please kindly go easy on me...

I wish I could do something more on the front wheel hub, but you can't really do so much
since it has no moulded details, just flat surface...

I promised to my friend Neil on DAC that I would update as I go along collecting these
1/100 Skymarks, so here they are Neil. Hope you like it...

Tamiya enamels dry really fast too. Every layer, probably 15 minutes for me to apply the
2nd layer if needed. Before putting to rubber tires back on, I've waited a good 30 munutes
as when the hubs are not completely dry, when pushing back the rubber tires would
get paint off from the side of hub. (Yes, from experience )

I did think about weathering the wings, fuselage and etc, but that would take so much
time as the model is in 1/100 scale and quite big. But eventually I think I'll be trying at
least one model though. Probably Thai. I will update as I go.

Oh, by the way, Neil, can you post some pictures of B734 fuselage and wing, actual aircraft?
It doesn't have to be Thai, although if it's Thai, it's better, but anyway. If you could post some, it would be great.
It's always nice to have some photo of an actual thing helps so much better to weather especially the wings and fuselage.
Otherwise, someone could go too much weathering and come out with very unrealistic result.

I am going to do this work for Alaska B737-800 W Lei tonight. As I did paint them last
night and being dried at home, it would be easy work. But starting US Airways B737-400
current color and China Airlines B737-800 W will be followed so I will be in labor of joy
tonight. I have a light cold, so I don't know how much I could do it tonight but will try.

Oh, btw my very first 1/100 Skymarks actually was AirAsia A320 and second isi Alaska B73-900ER W Disney II.
They are already done so I will have them photo taken and post them too.

Hi Benjamin. Great to see these pics. The gear detailing looks very nice a cool livery too. I only have two Supreme models, the Alaskan MD80, and the Aeromexico version. I love that Aeromexico livery. I used to have the Continental retro 737-900, but I got offered a very, very good price for it, so I sold it on.Thanks for posting the pics, looking forward to seeing more.

Neil.

Yes, actual aircraft photos, last one, British looks like a model.
By the way, who makes that model? That has lights and everything...

If it's not too much to ask, can you post a few more of B734 that shows
nice and dirty fuselage and wings? I know how to use Airliners.net however,
I can't seem to find good ones for example, that's why I'm asking.
Please Neil... Thank you!!

I am a fand of Alaska Airlines plus, my favorite destination is Hawaii
so it is a perfect combination. Alaska bird with Hawaiian lei.

Again, nose gear hubs, I've painted Tamiya "Sky Grey" then weathered with "TWM"
"Oil Stain" however, can't do much, since no moulded details. Again, very difficult to get
the highlight effect... Still better than shinny chrome.

Main gears are much better. For outside, mixed color of Tamiya "White" (Gloss) and
"Light Grey" to get the color of exact fuselage bottom grey. Inside is "Sky Grey"
Used "TWM" "Oil Stain" heavily for inside and very light touch on the outside.

I don't know maybe because my photos are taken by iphone, they don't look good as in
real life... Again, these look so much better in real life. Please believe me...

I really have enjoyed the Skymarks Supreme models I have. Sadly, I'll be selling them. I'm moving into an apartment that has no room to store the boxes or display them. Mine are the Alaska Disney-themed 737s and the Virgin America A320. Gorgeous models.

That's very sad to hear... I do need Virgin America.
Would you be so kind to send me a PM with condition of the model and price?

I normally purchase a brand new one, but let me know if you're interested.
Thank you.

Sorry it took a few days to update...

First, I was extremely tired, went to bed early for a couple of days,
so I wasn't able to finish the models.

Second, I had some problems with enamel coming off from the wheel.
Enamel stays well on plastics, but I guess not on metals.
I think I'm going to have to use the acrylic paints for later models.
Tamiya does make both enamel and acrylic paints so I guess I'll have to try.

Here is one of my favorites, US AIRWAYS B737-400!!
This model is no where to be found these days.
I was lucky and a dear friend from Canada sent this model to me.
I abosolutely love this model and it's too bad that we can't see this bird anymore.

I had to take another shot for this one with wheels visible.

I used Tamiya "Royal Blue" and it works just fine as is. No need to mix the color.

This picture, you can really see the result.
Outside hub is again Tamiya "Royal Blue" no mix.
Inside hub is Tamiya "Sky Grey" then weathered with "TWM" "Oil Stain"
I used "Oil Stain" on both side, but outside is just light touch only a couple of times,
inside is heavily used until I thought it looked good.

Again and again, can't to much on the nose wheel as it has a flat surface...
If you look closely like this, it is like hmm... well... ok... but
if you look at the 1st and 2nd picture, it's OK. I think... Better than shinny chrome...
Tamiya "Sky Grey" with "TWM" "Oil Stain"

Here is my another favorites...

I always prefer normal livery over special color in any airline.
I have this CHINA AIRLINES B737-800 "Lavender" on its way, but
this normal livery is simply beautiful!! Love this model.

This one I think I applied the least amount of weathering on nose gear hub.
Again, Tamiya "Sky Grey" then "TWM-Oil Stain" lightly.

OK, My basic thought was to mix Tamiya "Purple" and "White(Gloss)" to get the
fuselage bottom light violet color. I tried 4 different variation of this mix from
light violet to dark violet (4 different mixes), but it did not match the color.
My last try was to add drop of "Royal Blue" on lightest violet mix did the magic!!
It completely match the fuselage bottom color. Inside hub again is "Sky Grey"
"TWM-Oil Stain" applied heavily inside and light touch on outside.

Here we go...

My very 1st 1/100 Skymarks was AirAsia Japan A320 WL Normal livery.

1/100 Skymarks quality really IS "supreme" just like the name,
size, paint quality, overall finish, easy to put togather and etc...
I love the model and I love the livery too.

Hope you guys like as much as I do...

I don't know because this is a recent release from Skymarks,
the nose gear does have moulded details and weathering was sucessful.

All previously delievered real aircrafts either Boeing or Airbus usually had
grey wheel hubs, these gets very dirty over the years, almost looks like dark dark grey
in real life, but recently delivered aircrafts (more on Airbus) have white wheel hubs
nowa days I see. But gets dirty. As for this aircraft being fairly new, I tried to express
that on weathering.

Tamiya "Flat White" then "TWM-Oil Stain" medium weathering, as again, the aircraft is
fairly new. So I didn't go too crazy on oil stain. Love the result myself.

AirAsia normal livery really is growing on me. Not too crazy about their special liveries.
Well, not too crazy on any airlines' special liveries.

About main gears, outside hubs have moulded details so they look great with weathering.
Tamiya "Flat White" then "TWM-Oil Stain" medium weathering. Too bad inside hubs
don't have moulded details so I wanted darker dirty look, painted with Tamiya
"Neutral Grey" with "TWM-Oil Stain" somewhat heavily used.

Purchasing this 1/100 Skymarks AirAsia Japan A320 WL Normal Livery was the
best and worst thing happened to me... (It is my very 1st 1/100 Skymarks model)

Best thing : I didn't know 1/100 Skymarks Supureme was this good. I absolutely love
them. Starting with the size, paint quality, overall finish, still expensive but relatively
better than Pacmin in price wise. (I really can't afford Pacmins)

Worst thing : Collecting has begun, and I get to spend more than when I was focused on
1/500, 400, 200s... Oh well, what can I say...

I would like to thank my fellow DACers (all you guys) who helped me in the begining with
my 1/100 collecting... I am a very happy man just watching these 1/100s... Thank you guys!

Here is Alaska Airlines B737-900ER WL Spirit of Disneyland II.
B737-900 is a long aircraft and it sure looks mighty good.
I've been on Korean Air B737-900 many times and love the aircraft.

Again, paint quality including Disney charactors' images are very well done.
Beautiful aircraft model indeed!!

Due to being a recently release from Skymarks, unlike previously posted SM B737s above,
this one has nose wheel hub with moulded details, so it was better for me to weather.

Tamiya "Sky Grey" with "TWM-Oil Stain" but very light touch on this as the aircraft
was painted in this livery not too long ago, being fairly new.
