It was a throw away, given to a woman at TWA. Then it was bought at a garage sale, and transferred to the bargain buyer's friend over the phone. Now the guy wants $15k for it. Hope he gets a couple hundred bucks for it, for a storage fee.
Way too high NOW???!!! I sent the seller a message as to why did it go up $3,000, we will see if they answer.
Guessing that he has had tons of inquiries (not me) and is thinking that the model is worth this kind of money. Don't get me wrong, it's a great model, worth a lot more than a "couple of hundred bucks" for sure, but not $15,000 just due to it's size, alone.
Contacted the seller and he stated the buyer agreed to a best offer option and said not to disclose the selling price. Bullcrap anyways because i said its not like i know the buyer nor will i be able to ask the buyer how much he bough it for lol. Anyways its obvious the seller made a killing (probably very very close to the asking price)on the model and just did not want to let anyone know how much he made.

Respectfully, I'm not quite in agreement. This is a rare cutaway model, in a market that has less and less cutaway models out there. If you are into these models, and can afford it, then more power to you.

No, its more like folks that own these type of models rejoice when a sucker spends that kind of money. Those who do not and would like to acquire one would like to spend a more realistic price.
Of course we all like to pay the most realistic (usually: lowest) price possible for our models. But if money is not an issue and cutaways are your main interest, then there are pieces like this one which perhaps you will never even have the chance to catch again in your lifetime.
A model is always worth what the highest bidding buyer is willing to offer. IMO there is no such thing as a "realistic" price, especially on pieces similar to this one.
Hope buyer and seller are happy. That would mean it's been a good deal.

I can see your point, but if a factory-new 1:100 ANA 787 by PACMIN with some kind of Star Wars theme costs $ 2.400, I think 11.000 for an 880 cutaway dating from 1960 is not out of this planet.
Try to see it the other way round: some fool now has 11.000 $ less to spend on models that you may want to buy in the future. Isn't that encouraging ?
