Default [Semi-OT] Boo-friggin-yeah! Lots of new DW 1/72 military planes!

Go check out http://www.dragonmodelsltd.com/html/warbirds_index.html

Quick summary:

F-14A, F-14B, F-15A, F-15C, F-15E, Bf-109E, Bf-109G, Fw-190A, Fw-190D, F/A-18, CF-18 (for all you Canucks! ) and even more F-16's. As I suspected, the Wisconsin ANG one is the funky red-tail one, not the standard one (yes, my hate of non-standard schemes extends to military ones as well, except for VF-101's NAS '97 scheme, since that is the coolest F-14 the world has ever seen---and since it's an F-14B, and there's not many F-14B's to make, and that's the only non-ultra-low-vis-grey F-14B out there, I think there's a VERY good chance they'll make it). Though I was wrong about the Fighter Weapons School one--I was certain it'd be the black/white one, like Armour did.

I'm going to be SOOOOO broke..... (I just got my Corgi Harrier and Phantom today, so many planes to buy....)

As much as I like the Mustang, I think I'll wait till they come out with the P-38 Lightning

Move over Corgi, there's a new dog in town!!!!
I'm sure glad that pic of the CF18s was not just a generic photo.
Now I'm pumped!!
Corgi will still rule with the big stuff though!

Quick update---if you go through the various F-16 pages, they say they're going to make separate weapons packs available! I'm just going to load up my F-15's with AMRAAM's, and my F-16's will be heavy bombers....... (Hopefully the F-14's will already come with lots of Phoenixes, so we don't have to buy them separately like Hasegawa makes you)

Just bought the F-16 with the 432nd I think from Misawa. Beautiful detail. Don't think my pocket book can handle yet another scale.

Very Tempting.

Anyway I ordered the F-16 and it's on its way here. I recently built a 1/72 Hasegawa F-14 so no need buying the F-14 mentioned above. As for the F-15, I plan on building the F-15E in 1/72 scale so I'll pass that one too.

As for the others, I'm seriously considering the CAF F/A-18 but I'll pass on the P-51, Zero, and the BF-109.

Wheres the F-14D VX-9 Vampires has the best looking Tomcat around, its called "Vandy 1". It's the all black one and was also the last Tomcat to be made...But I do have to agree with David about the VF-101 Grim Reapers 97 Colors on the F-14B...those are the *****.

Looking forward to the Tomcat! Not sure if I have seen the 97 scheme of the Grim Reapers, but how can anything top the high-vis VF-84 of the Jolly Rogers. IMHO that is the absolute best scheme out there. I already have the Armour 1/48 version of it, but will definitely pick it up if Dragon makes it. For any of you Macross fans out there, I'm building Skull One in 1/72nd scale right now, so a F-14 Jolly Roger would look really sweet next to that.

Thumbs up

I would propbably not buy these cause I don't have the room for 1/400 scale airliners and 1/72 warbirds, but if I did I would LOVE to get a P-51 Mustang, a F-14 tomcat, and a F-15E

Trust me you've got to see the 97 VF-101 F-14B. I would look up NAS Oceana 1997 Airshow pics.

I've never found a single good pic of the whole plane--just good pics of various bits, or bad pics of the whole plane! So the best thing is to look up VF-101 '97 NAS Oceana airshow pics of F-14B's to get the whole idea Best source I know of is http://www.topedge.com/alley/images/f14b/vf101bim.htm But here's a quick teaser--the rest of the plane is just as cool as the tail:

Now, that pic (and others like it) are too bright--it's not white with scarlet tails, it's grey with blood-red tails. Like this:

Ironically, the BEST pic of this plane is from Armour's model of it! (Thought it's really wrong, they didn't make an F-14B, just an F-14A)

Best real pic:

As for the black F-14D: well, unless you're a 1/32 scale modeler or something the F-14B mold would be close enough, so they might do it. And you can always get the black F-14A, which is cooler IMHO, since it's flat black, and the F-14D was sort of glossy. The black F-14A is even blacker than an SR-71, BTW.

PS--sorry for so many pics, but this plane ROCKS and it's just hard to get good photos.

Thanks for the pics David. This plane is really sweet. I know this will hurt my wallet, but I hope that Dragon makes all the F-14 squadrons!

Exactly--I mean, you really only need one F-15/16/18, they're all basically the same except for tail codes (unless they're in special occasion airshow/ann. markings). But F-14's---I'd buy a dozen! I want Sundowners, Black Knights (with the armored knight on the black tail), Jolly Rogers, Grim Reapers '97, Ghost Riders, Bounty Hunters, Wolfpack, any of the all-black VX-squadrons, Swordsmen, Black Aces, and who can forget VF-143 Pukin' Dogs (a good candidate for the F-14B mold).

UUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN! A presumably decent CF-18 ready-made in 1/72 scale. I'm happy that Mikerian is so close by.
