Does anybody knowe of any Martin Baltimore kits available? I'm maybe looking for a Baltimore Mk.IV, it's for reference purposes for a project so I don't want to spend too much, but I may need a presentable kit showing the details to good effect. Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks,

The only Baltimore kit that I know of is the old Frog one which shouldn't be too hard to get from a specialist kit dealer either as the Frog original or a Novo re-issue. It's fairly basic as you'd expect but as far as Baltimores go that's it I think.
A couple of kits of the Maryland have come out in the last couple of years but those manufacturers haven't done the logical thing and followed these up with the Baltimore for some reason. Hope this helps anyway. Rich. |

Hi Rich, thanks for the tip. I'll look for the Frog one, I remember those Frog kits from the old days, especially the Shackleton
I'm looking for it as I'm planning to order a Baltimore Mk.IV from Bader models in Bahrain, and it would be a huge help if I could send them a kit with the reference material. Cheers!Justin |

Ah yes the Frog Shackleton! Now that really was a classic kit and especially good for living up to the old Shack's reputation as a million rivets flying in close formation!
Anyhow just a quick message to ask what reference material on the Baltimore you've got because I've got the Aircraft Of The Fighting Powers volume with plans for it in, not sure how accurate they are but if you want I can send you a photocopy of them. I'm also curious to know just how much Bader charge for something like the Baltimore simply because I'm a little short of work at the moment and I'm investigating other avenues for my "talents" such as making one off models for individual clients. Hi Rich,
Thanks for the kind offer, I've got drawings, but I think it will help Bader if I could provide something in 3D as it would help him model the contours and shape, quite distinctive on the Baltimore. I saw Hannants advertising a Sanger vac-form kit for less than £20, I wouldn't want to build it, but it may be good enough for Bader's modellers. About your idea, I think there is most definately an opening for you. Bader charges $350 for warbirds, plus $45 p&p, and if it's opened by customs there's about £50 to pay. So, if you're lucky it's about £270, otherwise about £320, a lot He does do a beautiful job however. I think there is a real market for bespoke high quality models, maybe not 10000's, but certainly enough to support an enterprising modeller. Also, I think your knowlege of these warbirds would be highly advantageous, as it's a big help if the modeller knows what he is modelling![]() Justin |
