Question Ami Model Makers ?

Hi Everyone,

Just wondering.
Went through my daily search and found this company called
AMI Model Makers. I assume that now they've gone down the same route
as Spacemodels. They look almost the same quality as Spacemodels
I want to contact them but I don't know how ?

could be the same as AMI/PHELPS. iirc they swallowed up spacemodels/exec. models and others. they produce corporate models, but they DO NOT sell online, i have already asked. you have to visit them. but they are not cheap!! they are part of the curvature group.

Those are old models that they've had a very long time. There are no more to be had. AMI/Phelps produced some very fine models indeed. As Robert has already said, they did not sell to the public directly. Around 12 years ago, I contacted them to see if they would sell me a 1/200 A3XX model. They were surprisingly friendly, and providing I collected it myself from their Leighton Buzzard HQ, they would be happy to oblige. When I arrived, I was met by Mr Phelps Jnr, son of the founder. He showed me around the place, and it was fascinating.

AMI Phelps bought Spacemodels so they are now one and the same. AMI used to be the Airbus modelmaker of choice (before Airbus really started using Graphideco or PacMin).

From what I can see they do other stuff such as boats and trains. They did make the Virgin Galactic model full scale mockup at Farnborough last year though. This follows on from their smaller models.

They are based in Pitstone Green UK near Luton Airport.

Exclamation Re: Ami Model Makers ?

i met Mr Phelps several years ago when he was making models for airbus ,
he has a large new purpose built unit somewhere close to Luton,
and upstairs was racking full of models he got when he bought up space models ,
i did not get a chance to walk through the tresure but there was over a hundred at a guess maybe more of all sizes from our usual 100th scale collectors models to giant 4 to 7 foot models.
they were all sorts of liveries and aircraft but he told me he did not want to flood the market with them ,
personally i think he just wanted to use them for repaint jobs from major airlines when he got orders to produce models in bulk and i suppose it saves money having to re-mould and clean up etc.

It's funny you should say that because I spoke to Aviation Trading Hamburg and they said that the people that do their customs are based near Luton and they do models in contract with Airbus...
