Metal 1649
Hi All, new to the forum, great site! I have an solid metal Lockheed Constellation. Wingspan is about 32", decals are all gone, TWA decal marking at the rear of the fuselage is barely visible if you hold it in the right light. It's got the longer nose and tip tanks, there is a four digit number stamped into the bottom close to what must be a mounting hole for a stand. I've never seen another one till I found this site and I'm wondering about the history these. I'll post a pic as soon as I'm able, I've got a leg in a cast at the moment so can't do the stairs. Any info would be great, thanks.

Re: Metal 1649
Sorry to hear about the leg, and welcome to the forum. I think you'll like it here. I'm a great 'Connie fan' myself too, but I only collect fibreglass, resin, plastic, and occasionally wood models, and have done so since 1975. There are folk on here who are very knowledgable ref the metal models, so stay tuned

Thanks 777. It's a very neat piece, I'd like to know more about it. Plan is to hang it for display, wife permitting of course, but it's also quite heavy so we'll see.

Re: Metal 1649
With tiptanks is not a 1649 (Starliner) but a 1049 series.
Big metal ones (1:50) were made by Peter Nelson (UK), Raise-Up (NL) & Lockheed.
Interested to see pictures of it.

Re: Metal 1649
Hi Dakota, thanks for the clarification. My son is home for a visit so I got it brought upstairs, here's a pic. It's 29" long and 31" wingspan.

Re: Metal 1649
Yep, for me it's a Peter Nelson (UK) model. Typical shape of the engine cowlings. Spinners and plexi discs are not genuine.
You can check this model in original condition on:

Re: Metal 1649
Thanks Dakota, great link! That Peter Nelson 1/48 TWA model sure looks like it, in better days. Any idea where I could get it restored? The outfit I work for now used to operate them so I would change the livery. Also, any idea what that would cost?

Hi. I have two o these. One was never painted and is crated. I have original PVN Eastern decals for it, but would love to find TCA or TWA decals someday.
Cheers
Al

Defo use west way for restoring, I found a 1/100 a380 which was restored so I could sell it, got it for £50 and was sold for £250, restoration wasn't much aswell, and welcome to the forum, you'll love it!
