Default 1/72 dc-8-63

Hey guys,

I'm starting yet another project (as I have a few in the "works")....I decided to dig out my 1/72 DC-8-63 vacuform kit from Transport Wings.....well, low and behold, I also found an extra set of 1/72 CFM-56 engines from a 1/72 KC-135R kit that I was holding on to in order to make a 1/72 DC-8-71/73....now looking at my 1/72 DC-8-63, I'm having issues.....meaning:

1) Do I go ahead and make it a 63 series?
2) Do I go ahead and make it a 71/73 series?
3) And what livery do you think would look good in either series?

I really think a 71/73 series would be REALLY cool seeing how there are not too many of those in a big scale....as a matter of fact, the only big scale 71 series that I know of is the Delta 71 in the Fred Cox collection.....and to do a Delta or United "Saul Bass" in a 1/72 scale with gears would be nice. But the 63 is also a cool version as well....uuuuughhh!!!

All ideas and suggestions are VERY much welcome as I truly do not know what to do at this point! Let me know your thoughts....

Thanks guys!

My vote would be a -63 in the original Delta delivery colours. As I live on the European side of the pond, it would be Finnair or Swissair for mine. Look forward to seeing it completed, whichever livery you choose

Ok, so here's the update on the vacu-form 1/72 DC-8-63 or 71/73.....I've taken a two pics with the CFM-56 engines taped onto the wing to see how it would look as a 71/73 version.....I LOVE it, but still not sure if I want it the 71/73 or 63.....and yes, that is a penny on the wing lol!! But I'm really torn as to what series I want to build it as my heart is saying the 71/73 version as I'm not sure how many people have converted a 1/72 into a 71/73 series. Tell me your thoughts as I appreciate and value your opinions....

If it were me I would be building the Series 71/73. I reckon the DC-8 looked great with those big CFM donks on the wings.

I totally agree, the more I look at it, the more I like it!!!! So I think I'm going to shoot for a United "Saul Bass" 71 series!

There is a difference between -71 and -73..wing span and a little difference in the nose a/c config.
