Re: Ual dc-8 dfm
Hi everybody! I am new here, happy to join. Concerning that 8 it seems to be twice the value? Does anyone know if the chrome stand is original coming that way with united models or it is a custom one? Thanks!

Paint is not that good and stand and stand emblem are reproduction.

Not even twice the value. Maybe $2,000 to $3,000

Re: Ual dc-8 dfm
Leaving aside the very inflated price, the model is quite a looker.

Re: Ual dc-8 dfm
I guess you could ask for a Million dollars if you wanted to. Doesn't mean someone will pay it. Looks like a repro stand and logo (I sold the logos for a while and will have some more soon). I think that this model is worth about 2k to 3k. But you never know with Ebay. To me 10k is an awful lot of money, but for some collectors it is just small change.

Re: Ual dc-8 dfm
I think the seller made a mistake and added an extra "0" in the price.

Re: Ual dc-8 dfm
Fred wouldn't pay that much for a model. I have met with Fred (had the pleasure of having dinner with him a few times and we swapped models a few times) and he is a pensioner with limited funds, like most of us. 10K for a DFM is way out of line. That is why he hasn't sold it the first time around. I could see 5k but it's real value is around 2500 to 3500. Fred is the DC-8 guru and sure has the collection. He started as a kid and he would tell you that it would be impossible to do today.......Cheers Al 707Boeing

Re: Ual dc-8 dfm
707boeing,
hi, as i see your a restorer i figured u might know the answer to my question. i just obtained a DFM american dc4. it is scratched deeply and has severe metal pitting on top of and bottom of fuselage. some pits as deep as 1/8 inch. almost as if someone dragged it and slammed it on a concrete sidewalk. there is also a stress fracture on one of the elevators and both elevators are bent. is there any way to repair this metal? i doubt polishing will work as it is too deep and the metal will be out of shape if overpolished or sanded. I was thinking more in the sense of this new aluminum welding rod that is out on the market called durafix. it is sort of a solder that u melt on to aluminum and it welds. perhaps i can use that to fill the pitting? your advise would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Re: Ual dc-8 dfm
This model has been on eBay before and it didn't sell then... I doubt the result would be any different this time round.
