Default Sears "Jet Terminal" Playset-1964

Hi Guys-

Don't really post here much, but I thoroughly enjoy the forum!

This is not exactly on topic, as this is not die-cast, and my apologies in advance if I'm pushing it!

I'm trying to locate more info on an airport playset that I had in 1964 when I was 3 years old (Hopefully the image will attach here); more "Realistic" (For a kid's toy that is) as far as the 707s go than any of the MARX layouts.

It was only a couple years ago when I spotted this in the 1964 Sears Christmas Catalogue, after not seeing it for over 40 years, that I finally saw an image again!

My questions are, does anyone know the original manufacture of this, from when to when was it made?? Really, any info whatsoever, or experiences with the toy, etc.

Now, I've tried the various "Playset Groups" (Which is not really so much my thing anyway, just this particular set), without any luck at all.

All I know about this, is that it was made in Japan, and the Sears catalogue calls it a "Jet Terminal".

Thanks so much in advance for any leads on this long, long ago toy.

Best,

Christian

PS-Here's the link if the image does not show up in the post:

I've never seen anything like that before. Even the aircraft look brilliant. It would be nice if someone could tell us more. What a thrill to get up Christmas morning and find one of those under the tree

The playset looks great! I have no information on it.

The scene underneath looks like an early set design for 'Starship Troopers'

Fascinating toy. Those jets look just like 720s, with the typical shaped wing leading edge, inboard of the engines, as on the real thing.

Super fast service!

I would rather have those posted in thumbnails on a separate thread for members to easier access and comment those each one.

Again, if you feel like it

I just think this is a thread that could run for a looooong time as everybody has something hidden from his childhood

Oh sure, I would love to simply embed the images here at DAC...maybe you can help me do that?

Also, I'm subscribed to the whole antique forum, but don't seem to be receiving any email? Kind of all thumbs over here!

Thanks in advance,

Christian

That's a great guess! Actually, this set was made in Japan exclusively for Sears...been trying to find more info on it. There is no actual brand name on the box, and the toy just says "Made in Japan" underneath the terminal.

Here's a video I put together to try and track more info:
Sears & Roebuck-"International Airport Playset"-1964 - YouTube

And our upload for the Remco set:
Remco-"Voice Control Kennedy Airport"-1968 - YouTube

Does anyone recall that GIANT United 727 ,made by Remco??? It was like 3 feet long!

You're mcdonnell220 - I've spent hours-days enjoying your aviation stuff on youtube and thanks for posting all of it!

I had the giant United 727 - we bought it at a retail store at Tysons Corner mall (near D.C.) in either 1968 or 1969 - I almost think it was from Sears. All white plastic, both forward and ventral doors opened. I think I remember it had two switches, one for the motor (to "taxi") and the other to operate the motor-produced sound representing jet whine. I saw one on eBay not too long ago but I can't remember search terms I was using when I ran across it.

Your memory sounds right on target Prop-Jet! She had a jet whine, and definitely rolled along the floor. This may or may not be amusing to some, but not long after I got this toy (I was 7 in 1968, and that sounds about right to me too), I hauled out a can of Krylon silver spray paint...the "White whale" (Who knew then that this would become norm in 1/1 scale later?) appearance drove me NUTS, and I proceeded to paint (No primer of course) this monster...completely destroying it's future value, .

Someone has upload one to YT:
United Airlines Boeing 727 HUGE Toy Plane - YouTube

My absolute fave toys from childhood would be the Yonezawa/Cragston AA DC-7, the Sears Airport Set, MARX AA Electra, and two MARX CL-44s...one Slick, one Flying Tiger...sure love to have those again!

There are three Sears Jet's on ebay right now good shape for $50 a pop. I saw the terminal pieces last month, but all told with the jets, they were looking for about $450

I went to the site indicated in the first post, and actually I'm more fascinated with the Hamilton's Invaders toy set. My grandparents gave me that set in 1964, and it was so goofy, even for an 8 year old. I had fun, though, tearing it up and burning the soldiers and bugs (I was such a little pyro). Horrible Hamilton was the last to go, in a fireworks finale. I think there are still pieces of him buried in the backyard of my old childhood home...fond memories.

Thanks Jet-X for the additional info...someone over at the MAC forum confirmed yesterday that the company was Tomiyama, so I'm thrilled to finally have the info trickling in after all these years of wondering.

A US seller has three of the Sears Boeing 707 toys on Ebay. The photos are worth posting here especially the simple undercart
