1:100 Boeing 747 Prototype [RUNWAY COLLECTABLES]
Hi All,
Exciting times!
For those who don't know me, I recently set up Runway Collectables an online store offering scale model diecast aircraft (Herpa 1:500) - the response has been utterly fantastic.
As you'll have seen on our website, we're aiming to launch an affordable large scale 1:100 resin cast model aircraft. This won't be an "Airfix' style plastic model kit but a super scale "Garage Kit". If you're familiar with fantasy, props and cosplay boards (star wars/dr who/the geeky stuff we secretly love etc.) you'll know exactly what a garage kit is. But if you don't...it's a low run, hand produced resin model which will require some finishing but minimal assembly. It will be up to you to paint it but we will include decals.
Why has it been an exciting weekend for us...? The first prototype arrived on Saturday and we wanted to share some photos with you.

As always, happy to answer any questions.

Re: 1:100 Boeing 747 Prototype [RUNWAY COLLECTABLES]
Any chance of a 1/100 747-8IC in the near future? How about with landing gears?

Re: 1:100 Boeing 747 Prototype [RUNWAY COLLECTABLES]
Hi robertjon5,
Thanks for your comment. The prototype has been modelled as a B747-300, but we're exploring possibilities. At the moment, we're asking our mould maker to add wingtips for a B747-400 series option. We are hoping to get the first casting through next weekend. Watch this space!
With regards to liveries, we're aiming to launch with a number of popular options. Of course, it'd be helpful to get an indication of what people might want to see so that we can focus on what people actually want. All feedback is welcomed.
So people, what are your top 5 liveries?
Happy Flying!

Re: 1:100 Boeing 747 Prototype [RUNWAY COLLECTABLES]
Hi Speedemon,
The 747-8IC is a beautiful aircraft and we absolutely love it. Whilst we're aiming to launch the B747-300/400, we did consider the B747-8IC and is potentially on the cards for later this year if our project proves to be popular.
Regarding the landing gear, we're aiming to keep the model simple in order to maintain the retail price down. We're looking into it and we'll keep you posted, but it probably won't be till later in the year.
Happy Flying!

Re: 1:100 Boeing 747 Prototype [RUNWAY COLLECTABLES]
That would be a challenge and quite cool too!
We used the Pokemon aircraft in our ad because it's a rare model in the 1:500 range and therefore used it for our model sourcing service. Co-incidently, we were asked just last week to track down that very model and we're please to say that we did!
(I actually have one in my personal collection and it is BEAUTIFUL!)

Re: 1:100 Boeing 747 Prototype [RUNWAY COLLECTABLES]
I,m sure someone can direct you in here as to who would be able to produce such a decal as the Pokemon .
The JAL Disney series is also a very good livery along with Swiss Air
Maybe it's just me but as I get better at these builds I look for something in a livery that has a kind of cool look to it like the JAL Disney 747 in 200 scale that I did last year .

If and when they're available I would love to place my order on the United Airlines Blue Tulip livery:
Let me know when this can happen!

Hi j.patroni - wow - absolutely loving the Disney JAL. It looks fantastic. Love to see more photos - do you have a gallery on here?
Hi robertjon5, tg411 and Speedemon - thanks for the feedback. Some brilliant liveries there. It's giving us some food for thought...keep the ideas coming.
As regards to pricing, we'll let keep you posted in the coming weeks.
Happy Flying!

Re: 1:100 Boeing 747 Prototype [RUNWAY COLLECTABLES]
Hi Thunderbird,
As you've seen from the pics, we are working on the prototype at the moment. Companies like PacMins (and Space Models) work with some of the best mouldmakers to produce the most immaculate (and expensive) display models there are. We're aiming to produce an afordable "garage kit" at as high a quality as possible, with decals and full instructions included.
The price really won't break the bank and will make large scale models of this kind attractively affordable!
Regarding the finished model... well, as long as you can wield a paint brush with confidence, and have a keen eye to line up decals, then the finished model will look every bit as good as a PacMins. (the only things we won't be supplying is paints, sweat, and swearwords.... you'll have to supply those !)
We're really pleased at the level of interest across the forums that this project is generating, and really hope that we can deliver a garage kit that meets with everyones expectations.
Kind regards,
Tom @ Runway Collectables

Re: 1:100 Boeing 747 Prototype [RUNWAY COLLECTABLES]
While the mold looks very good, it could use a little tweaking, for example the prototype model shown would be better off sold as a 747-400 owing to the curved wing root fairing, PW4000 engines and longer wings (with winglets added of course) thereby also allowing you to offer a greater choice of airlines (China Airlines, SIA, Korean, NWA, DL, UA, AC and AI were some PW4000 744 operators) as the 747-300 had limited customers.

EL AL is another PW4000 744 operator.

this is nice to know, I'd give it a go, having my own model made by me, in my favorite scheme...ANA, JAL(old scheme) and Singapore would be nice

Re: 1:100 Boeing 747 Prototype [RUNWAY COLLECTABLES]
Hi All,
Just a quick update for you on the 1:100 scale 747’s that we are working on at the moment.
After a very positive start, our guy working on sculpting the master this has been pulled off the project to work on a commercial venture, but we hope to have him back on board to finish the master in a couple of months. That pushes our expected launch to around June. Sorry for the delay guys, but we’re working on this in our spare time and sometimes real world work gets in the way. We’ll keep you updated.
We are also working (in tandem with the above) on a 1:200 scale Airbus A340-500 and that should be ready to roll around the same time! Again, well keep you guys posted.
Thanks for the interest and watch this space!

Re: 1:100 Boeing 747 Prototype [RUNWAY COLLECTABLES]
Hopefully we can see the final product soon. The line is getting long to get these, the demand for this model is here today and may be gone tomorrow. When opportunities arises one must move quickly in today's world. Don't put it out there to tease us and have us wait too long.
