was bored this weekend, so I decided to paint my Eddy Custom Kevlar in my favorite scheme of all-time. Felix Potvin. Only trouble was deciding the color combo
Since I just got brand new Vaughn 8600's leg pads, T5500 Catch and B7400 Blocker in a matching White, Black, and Silver scheme....decided to replace the "Toronto Blue" with a silver color I already had the airbrush and compressor from my days moddeling glue-together airplanes, so it was a trip to the Automotive Paint store in search of a good Black and the perfect Silver.Looking through the books I setteled on a Honda color called "Desert Mist". Had the guy mix up a 2oz. bottle of the Silver, and one of the black, bought some urathane reducer and a can of two-part clear and headed home. First mistake: Even though I thoroughly cleaned the mask, COMPLETELY forgot to rough up the gel-coat with some scotch-brite. Not doing this makes it a pain in the *** for the new paint to adhere to the surface of the mask. I have a really good pic of the Potvin Mask on my laptop, so I took the polished cage and all hardware off, masked off the entire inside of the mask as well as vent holes, bought a 12'er of cheap beer, and proceeded to mask off the design. While I was painting the mask, I dropped the cage off at a local powder coating shop to get the polished cage turned to white. Finished Product:
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Photo of Felix's real mask I used for refference: ![]() Materials: ![]() ![]() The mask turned out alot better than expected, but clearing it was a pain. After the first coat, the unthinkable happened: Accidentally knocked the mask off the table and onto the dirty concrete floor. A couple dings, some dirt and that was about it. But it would have been perfect otherwise. Total in parts: 2oz. bottle of Black-$10.00 2oz. bottle of Silver-$10.00 Urathane reducer-$12.00 2-part Clearcoat-$18.00 Grand total of $50 bucks. Mask painters wanted $450.00 to $550.00 It was very tedious, but the end result is OK.

That looks really cool! I know almost nothing about Ice Hokey, so that is quite interesting to me.
You must be really pleased with it! And not a fat arm or a can of Heiniken in sight either!! ![]() ![]()

But when the daily remit is multiple short hops between tiny bumpy strips in a climate that flickers from the blustery to the apocalyptic, this sturdy little craft is hard to beat.' $450-$550?! To paint a mask?! Jeez, I could get one of these cheesy body shops out here to do a crappy job on my truck for that. Looks really good, Dylan. Now go out and scare the poop out of somebody on the ice.
