Perhaps the fact I'm a girl makes it slightly easier?

Yes, temporarily - then gravity takes over, the boobs hit my chin, knock me off balance and I fall onto the ground! (sorry, My Bad!).
(used to be able to hold a handstand for a LONG time when I was younger!).

A slightly more serious reply ... as a child and teenager (up until age 15), I was training to be a professional ice dancer and took a lot of dance lessons (ballet, jazz, modern dance) - somehow after all these years, have retained my flexibility.

well being a girl would most definitely help your ability to do the splits. wish i could hold a handstand for a long time like you used to be able to do. i'm more of a flipping kind of person though (as you can probably tell)

Have you ever considered some sort of Cirque du Soleil circus school or gymnastics camp type of place or dance school or ??? - if you're interested in any of those types of places?

A few things that help with building this up besides just practice!!! ...

1. When you're in the handstand position, have another person hold your ankles while you try to find your balance/centre of gravity.

2. Try starting out with "elbow stands" before actually doing handstands.

3. Do a handstand up against a wall and practice your hand placement positions.

Hopefully some of these suggestions might help you out.

Jo
