Default Richard Zednik-Florida Panthers throat slash....

Richard Zednik's throat was slashed by teammate Olie Jokenen's skate, opening up his jugular. I watched the game live, it was being played in Buffalo against the Sabres, where, ironically, Clint Malarchuk had his jugular slashed back in '89. I have never seen that much blood squirting UP out of the wound. They had to Zamboni the ice to cler it of all the blood. Stopped play for over 20 minutes and there was talk of cancelling the game. Very scary. He is in stable condition and in surgery.

I was watching it too. It was kind of eerie how when play was stopped, the arena was so quite the only sound that could be heard was the brushes from the zamboni's. According to the Buffalo announcers he was stabilized and rushed to the hospital. Mike Robitaille, the announcer, knew it right away when he saw the blood and then they were able to see the replay a minute later that confirmed it. I hope he's ok.

Good he is ok! It had to be gross. I saw it on the news here in Chicago during the sports highlights.

I'm just totally amazed that this sort of incident doesn't happen more often.

My only serious injuries have been: Broken left hand, broken nose (twice), cut by skate on right index finger (17 stitches), torn groin, and dislocated shoulder. Tons of small cuts on the face, abdomen, arms. And more bruises than one can shake a hockey stick at. God I love this sport!

Though it's just a little cut compared to Malarchuk's neck-slice back in 89.
Patch him up, and he's good to go.

Hope he'll recover over this soon.

Go Panthers !
